Turner Drops 26 Points in LWC win over Midway

By Brady Budke

Reagan Turner continues to shine in her senior season for the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team, as she dropped 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field in an 85-71 victory over Midway (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.

The 26-point outburst marks the third straight time Turner has recorded 25 or more points in a game this season. She has also made exactly nine field goals and shot over 50 percent from the field in each game as well. Turner added six rebounds, four of which were offensive, in the win for LWC.

Alongside Turner, three other Blue Raiders tallied double-figures in the scoring column. Maleigha Oldham chipped in 14 points off the bench on 5-of-13 shooting from the field. Rose Mary Jackson and Hailey Ison contributed 10 points apiece, with Ison notching four rebounds and three steals, while Jackson grabbed seven boards. Bree Glover had another strong game on the glass, pulling home a game-high 11 rebounds while corralling eight points. Sydnie Hall led Lindsey Wilson dishing out five assists while scoring seven points.

Governor: Another record day, 3,303 new cases

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Today, Gov. Andy Beshear reported the state's highest number of COVID-19 cases yet again with the test positivity rate reaching almost 9% as the commonwealth's alarming spread of the coronavirus continues with more than 11,500 cases and 68 deaths in the last four days alone.

"If we don't grab ahold of those red zone county reduction recommendations, if we don't see those steps being done and ultimately see those numbers coming down, we are going to have no choice but to take additional steps as we move forward," Gov. Beshear said. "Please take this seriously. You are either a part of the solution fighting the good fight to help other people or you're helping to spread this virus."

The Governor said Saturday was again worse than previous days, with 419 children alone testing positive and COVID-19 in every part of the commonwealth.

"So please, do your part. Do your civic duty. Wear your mask. There is so much suffering out there right now," Gov. Beshear said. "If we're not careful, it's going to get even worse than this, which is almost unimaginable compared to where we were months ago."

Meet the new Program Director at Homeplace on Green River

Join us in welcoming Lyn Stanton and her family to Adair County and to Homeplace on Green River. Lyn sends the letter below to introduce herself to everyone as the new Program Director at HGR.

By Lyn Stanton

Dear Friends of Homeplace on the Green River,

My name is Lyn Stanton and I am very excited to introduce myself to you as the new Program Director of Homeplace on the Green River. I would love the opportunity to tell you a little about myself and my journey to Homeplace.

I grew up in northeastern Ohio, and after high school attended Ohio University located in the small town of Athens in Southeastern Ohio. While I began my college career pursuing a degree in biological sciences, I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education. I have studied several disciplines extensively, especially biology and I am a lover of learning. I think that is why I enjoy working in education. After college, I stayed in Athens.

In 2009, I began teaching for a summer art camp at the Dairy Barn Arts Center and was hired as the Education Director in 2011. Shortly after, I met my darling Husband Charles Stanton. We were married in 2014 and welcomed our son Atticus into the world in 2015. Much of my husband's family originated in Adair and Russell counties and he spent several years of his childhood living on a gorgeous piece of land in Adair.

Letter: Thanks for replies on Toll Gate House

Larry sends thanks for everyone's help with Toll Gate information, and sends some information on his search, which we think might be helpful to others in the future. Larry's original question is here: Letter: Is the old Toll Gate House still standing?

By Larry Mansfield

I can't thank everyone enough for their replies. They answered a number of questions and the pictures are special. I visited Taylor and Adair Counties a few years ago to try to unravel the mystery of the toll gate. Since I had no idea what I was looking for I wasn't to disappointed when I found nothing. It was a nice drive from my home in Owensboro.

In case you are interested, the family I am researching is Hogland (Hogeland, Hoagland), specifically Hardin Hogland who was born in Green County, KY in 1813 to Isaac Hogland and Miriam Hardin Hogland.

LCDHD: 20 new cases in Adair, spread is Red-Critical

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

We are at a record number of active cases in our district at 932 for November 13, 2020. We also are about 4 days behind in case investigations and/or contact tracing. Even still, with the numbers we can report we have nine of our district's ten counties in the "red-critical" range of community-spread: Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne. This leaves only McCreary in the "orange-accelerated" range.

We call upon our citizens and community leaders to step-up your efforts in regards to COVID-19. Please don't wait until one of your loved ones dies or is hospitalized to take this seriously. Please, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding the touching of our faces.
