Sunday afternoon Kayaking on Green River Lake

By Mitzi Bault

From the Put In at the Snake Creek ramp in Adair County, we enjoyed Green River Lake Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2018.

Water was high from recent heavy rains but the surface was smooth. We only met one boat. Higher water meant we could boat in more places than we can when it's lower.

DHS extends KY REAL-ID deadline to Aug 2019

The KY Transportation Cabinet announced last week that REAL ID compliant licenses will be available beginning in 2019: New KY licenses to have option for REAL ID compliance

By Jordan Smith/Naitore Djigbenou

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) granted the Commonwealth a REAL ID extension to allow Kentuckians to use their current state driver's license to board domestic flights and visit military bases. A Kentucky driver's license, permit or identification card in the current and upcoming standard version will continue to be accepted by federal agencies through Aug. 1, 2019. Kentucky expects to maintain further extensions until REAL ID enforcement begins Oct. 1, 2020.

Standard driver's licenses and permits will remain acceptable to drive, vote, access federal and social benefit services (such as VA hospitals, Social Security offices, and federal courthouses) and for general identification purposes (such as signing a lease or purchasing age-restricted goods). A Voluntary Travel ID credential offers the benefits of a standard credential and is compliant with the requirement of the REAL ID Act, meaning that the credential will be accepted to board U.S. flights and access restricted federal facilities.

Letter: Watch out for check scams

Ann Pearson writes:
There is another scam hitting older persons; you get a letter from "Kroger" asking you to cash a large check and buy iTunes cards and rate the stores. You deposit the check and go buy what they ask only to find out the cashiers checks they sent you are fake. Whatever amount of money you have spent is out of your pocket.

There have been 2 victims of this scam in Adair County alone. You have sent them the numbers to the iTunes cards already so they have what they want and you are liable for the money you spent and people are told there is nothing anyone can do about it, you're just out your money and "you should have known better". --Ann Pearson
Comments re article 99810 Scam switches your bank deposit to a con artist's account

Ann -- Thanks very much for bringing this to everyone's attention. Any deal that involves depositing a check in order to withdraw the funds from your own account to purchase/send on to another person should be viewed with caution. Read more about similar scams at FTC.gov
