Glydus Bailey, 105, Columbia, KY (1913-2018)

Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Russell Heights Baptist Church and was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She loved cooking, quilting, reading, and singing, and she loved the outdoors and animals.

Glydus Bailey, 105, a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home, Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at 5:54pmCT at Signature Summit Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY. Bro. Darrell Treece and Bro. Jerry Putteet will officiate. Interment will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

The family request visiting after 5pmCT on Tuesday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


She was born in Irvine, Kentucky on August 12, 1913, the daughter of the late Ed and Cora Stamper Case of Estill County, KY.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy J. Bailey, on February 13, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Arvist “Stick” Harmon, a daughter and son-in-law, Ada & Herman Abbott, one son, Howard Bailey, her eight siblings, and also 2 grandchildren.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by
  • One daughter, Irene Harmon of Glensfork, KY
  • Three sons: Hardy “Junior” Bailey & wife Sue of Columbia, KY, Bill Bailey & wife Dorthy of Columbia, KY, and Danny Bailey & wife Linda of Columbia, KY
  • One daughter in law, Julia Bailey of Columbia, KY
  • 12 grandchildren, their spouses and descendants, and a host of
  • other family members who loved her dearly
