David Smith recalls 27 Apr , 1971 tornado destroying his home

Listening to David W. Smith's memories, I remembered exactly where I was on April 27, 1971 -- holding our tiny two-month-old child in my arms to protect him from howling winds, crashing thunder and lightening. I never want to be that close to a tornado again. Today, he described having their home destroyed right above his family's heads.

By Linda Waggener

David W. Smith has reason to be extra concerned when weather reports include possible tornadoes -- he lived through one.

He and I were outside at the Adair County Recycling Center where he works this afternoon in sunshine, seventy-five degrees -- and more than normal winds. He lifted his face to the sky, assessed the weather, and said, "the report is we'll likely get storms tonight. I don't want to go through that again."

Maury asks: Name of creek under bridge on KY 55 S Road

Maury Lewis writes:
What is the name of the creek that runs under the bridge on KY 55 south before you get to Hwy 92/Montpelier Road - Maury Lewis
Thanks. Don't bet the farm on this, but if memory serves me right, Squire Sammy Baker, in whose district the bridge is located, said it's over Glens Fork of Russell Creek (with help of Billy Joe Fudge!). And doesn't this come under the classification of an "Hadorta" law. Time was, highway departments included that in the signage at bridges. Why not now? How I miss the population signs we used to have at city limits. - EW

Tequilla is my Friend Tonight, new music produced in Columbia

Sybille Tuuha is a powerful, powerful lyricist and vocalist," says JIM, the trusted friend and writer on columbiamagazine.com whose words frequently weave our past artfully into the present. Her songs are produced by Danny Bailey in Columbia's Red Brick Studios - Jukka Tuuha says studios don't get any better than this - and the first release includes a song dedicated to all first responders, especially those who pulled Sybille from the wreckage, saving her life.

By Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com

A cold, windy day was suddenly warmed and brightened by delightful sound coming from a CD produced on the public square in Columbia, KY. The songs were written and performed by Sybille Tuuha of Canada and Columbia. The CD was produced and directed by Danny Bailey of Columbia. And the finished sound is like something straight out of Music City USA.

Canadians Sybille and Jukka Tuuha might never have crossed paths with the local production studio except that they purchased the old Field House on the corner of Reed and Fortune Streets in Columbia and then went for a walk around "their new village square".
