ACES concludes 2nd Annual Reading Madness Tournament Friday 30 Mar 2018

By Alice Curry
This year's "Reading Madness" started on February 2, 2018, pitting teams of students against one another in a bracket-style competition to earn Accelerated Reader points.

Each grade was comprised of 32 teams, made up of six or seven students per team. The team that earned more points in a two-week, head-to-head matchup advanced to take on another winning squad, but there were second-chance brackets to keep all teams motivated.

School wide goals met

ACES students were challenged to achieve a school-wide goal of 12,000 AR points. Several barriers tried to keep them from meeting this goal, such as weather and illness. However, ACES students not only achieved this goal but by late Thursday night when points were counted, had exceeded this goal by 324.3 points!

The reward for meeting this goal was a trip to Adair County High School gymnasium where ACHS girls and boys basketball teams entertained students with a scrimmage game. ACHS cheerleaders were also on hand to create a true Indian atmosphere! John Shelley, "Voice of the Indians", emceed the event. ACES would like to extend a special "THANK YOU" to these people who made our student reward special!

Great Job, ACES Students on a Successful Reading Tournament!

Special Thanks

An award ceremony was held on Friday, March 30, 2018 during morning assembly. This year several colleges and universities in Kentucky were contacted and asked if they would be willing to donate prizes for our students. ACES would like to thank the following colleges and universities who donated items such as: t-shirts, bracelets, leis, pencils, pens, cups, slider puzzles, sunglasses, and notepads: Lindsey Wilson College, Campbellsville University, University of Louisville, Eastern Kentucky University, Murray State University Western Kentucky University
