Allan Parnell credits God's direction for business success

Adair County native Allan Parnell is featured in a recent issue of the large Louisville church newspaper, The Southeast Outlook. His story is reprinted here in its entirety with permission of the paper
By Jacob Glassner
jglassner@secc.org

Sometimes you just have to take your faith to the streets.

Allan Parnell's trucking company, Mister "P" Express Inc., was in financial trouble in 1990 and in desperate need of a $100,000 small business loan. It had been a year since Parnell applied for the loan, but the bank had concerns about the company's viability and delayed the application. When the bank said it was close to a decision, Parnell and his brother put faith in action, heading to the bank's headquarters in downtown Louisville.

"We marched around that bank seven times, just like Joshua did with Jericho," Parnell said. "We were just praying, 'Lord, give us favor.'"

Whittney Ford urges hiring of 3rd Ag teacher

By Whittney Ford
Personal commentary by the writer

My name is Whittney Ford,a member and past senior officer,I agree with Amber Akers on this; we deserve a 3rd agricultural teacher. As a senior at ACHS and an AG senior, being without a teacher has left us seniors lost and looking for a way to change things.

Parent agrees with Amber Akers letter for 3rd Ag teacher

Crystal Hayes writes:
I couldn't agree more with Amber. FFA is all these things and more. FFA teaches agricultural lessons as well as life lessons such as the value of the work involved in a job well done, accountability, and leadership. FFA helps to build character that will see these children through the rest of their live. As the Parent of an FFA member I would like to commend Kirby Hancock, Terry Harvey and Randy Rexroat for a job well done with the Adair county FFA. Through their efforts the Adair County FFA is superior in many ways to the other counties. Our children compete well in competitions, our barn and shop are superior to many. Three educators have put Adair Co FFA on top. So why would we go backward instead of forward? -Crystal Hayes Comments re article 53755 Adair FFA student urges turnout in support of third Ag teacher by Amber Akers.

Many are missing point on Hospital Tax Recall petition

Jon Halsey writes:
The writer and many others are missing the point of the recall petition.

Most of us who have publicly endorsed the recall are at just about our wits end from having unelected, non-recallable individuals making arbitrary decisions without seeking or without listening to the people they supposedly serve.

We are simply demanding a voice in the process and we know the piper will ultimately have to be paid. Even though the cost appears to be the result of the dereliction of duty by many who now pass the bill for their errors on to us.

It may seem like a waste of time to some but the price of freedom and democracy has never been quick or cheap. I for one am willing to pay that price to have my voice heard even though it ultimately will not affect the outcome.

Fire hydrants: There's already trouble in River City - Dog envy

General idea, however, is endorsed - with a new twist on fundraising! And more revelations of guilty parties

By Mary Knight

I couldn't agree more with Lila. What a way to liven up the town !!! The possibilities are endless - a fire-hydrant scavenger hunt!! Tour buses from Canada, on the trail of specific hydrants, cleverly led to restaurants and historical sites in the area.

From Spain: Writer never met anyone like Casey & Cal Jones

Richard Hovious writes:
Thanks so much for the photo of Casey Jones. Been on the road for almost sixty five years now, in a LOT of "capacities" and have never met anyone like him or his dad Cal. My sister Judy was named after his radio show partner in the early forties - Judith Lane. - Incidentially as you might have heard, Spain(25% unemployment), is beginng to feel a lot like Adair County in the late thirties, except no one here has a garden! John Ford: On why he's against the Hospital Tax Recall petition

Mr. Ford says we are going to have to pay for 'this theft' . . . and the money will have to come from somewhere, and says, 'The generation before mine would have been warming up the tar and plucking feathers, but we now live in a civilized society, where we now do and say nothing to those that cause us harm.'

By John Ford
His personal commentary

Time for another empassioned rant about the state of the union.

This petition to recall the hospital tax, although a good idea, will in the end come to naught.

Lila Ford endorses work of Phantom Artists

Thinks all fire hydrants should be given special treatment
Comments re photo 46277 Dalmatian Fire Hydrant

Lila Ford writes:
Not sure about anyone else, but I think all the fire hydrants in town should be painted like this. You're right - it makes you smile when you look at them. I believe it would brighten anyone's day when they look at them. Good job Vonnie and Darlene. - Lila Ford
Thank you, Lila Ford! Having the aesthetics appreciation of a Billy Goat, or so I've been told, I still endorse your endorsement of these two artists; and I'll admit that it's visions of Canadian tour busses, coming and going, going and coming, spending their money in Adair County the way Sue Stivers wants them to, which is a big motive for me - so I'd hope to see a great deal of variety in the hydrant paintings. May the heavens forgive me for crass commercialism, but bringing more money can't be all bad. Culture and enlightenment is a great bonus, too. -ED

Carol Perkins report on how Yard Sale is going

Carol Perkins and Friends are having a Yard Sale in Style. In an Air Condition Store. It's really big and we asked her to share her experience with others who might try the same. She does, noting in Carol Perkins style that among other things, the Yard Sale is doing a great business just from the purchases the hosts are making from each other!

By Carol Perkins

Having an indoor, air-conditioned place for a continuous yard sale is a perfect way to do business. My mother happened to have a vacant shop next door to her house, and while she is looking for a business renter, my friends and I have filled it to the brim with our valuables that aren't as valuable because we have either outgrown them or they have been unused for years! We all have treasures that others will appreciate that we are tired of dusting or wearing.
