Herman Junior Gilley, 87, Knob Lick, KY (d. Aug. 14, 2012)

He was a member of a large, highly regarded Metcalfe County, KY family. He leaves 12 direct living descendants. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Big Meadow Baptist Church, and a World War II Army veteran

Herman Junior Gilley age 87 of Knob Lick, KY, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Norton Hospice Pavilion in Louisville, KY. Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Big Meadow Cemetery.Visitation will be from 4pm-8pmCT, Friday, August 17, 2012, and after 9amCT, Saturday at the funeral home.



He was the son of the late Herman and Mattie Faulkner Gilley and a retired farmer. Herman was a World War II Army Veteran and member of the Big Meadow Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Reece Gilley, and the following:
  • Four children: Gerald and wife Yong-Zhi Gilley of Springs, Texas; Ronnie and wife Marilyn Gilley of Gallatin, Tennessee; David and wife Amy Gilley of Sheperdsville, KY; and Tonya and husband George Walenga of Bowling Green, KY

  • Two brothers: Wilbur and H.G. Gilley, both of Edmonton, KY

  • Six grandchildren: Dan, Laura and husband Gilbert, Linda and husband Matt, Andrew, Samuel and Haven

  • Two great grandchildren: Zack and Cassie
Besides his parents Herman was preceded in death by a daughter Wanda Diane Gilley and one brother Paul Gilley.

Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, in charge of arrangements.
