Jordan Wayne Coppage of Campbellsville, KY departed this life in on Friday, January 10, 2020 at his home in Campbellsville. He was 33 years of age.

The funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 27, 2020 at 9:30amCT/10:30amET in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville with burial to follow in the Lebanon National Cemetery with full Military Honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. LWC Women's Basketball upset by Thomas More 74-56

Crestview Hills, KY - The No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team lost to Thomas More (Ky.) 74-56 on Thursday evening in Mid-South Conference action at the Connor Convocation Center.

J'Nayah Hall led all Blue Raiders (16-4, 5-2 MSC) with 15 points as Reagan Turner added 13 of her own. DeAsia Outlaw was the only other LWC player in double figures with 12 points while adding a game-high seven rebounds.

The Taylor County High School Beta Club competed at the State Convention in Louisville January 18-January 20, 2020. The club had the following winners who placed in the Top Five, which means they will advance to Nationals!

LWC Basketball hits the road tonight to face Thomas More

The men's basketball team (RV) and women's basketball team (No. 12) continue conference play this evening on the road facing Thomas More (KY) beginning at 5pmCT with the women's matchup followed by the men's matchup at 7pmCT.

The Blue Raiders women's basketball team (16-3, 5-1 MSC) handled (RV) Cumberlands (KY) by a final score of 79-68 on Jan. 18 in their last outing. LWC saw 78 of their 79 points come from their starting five of Maleigha Oldham, Jynea Harris, J'Nayah Hall, Reagan Turner, and Rose Mary Jackson, with Oldham notching a career high 28 points to lead the way.

Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments Tue 14 Jan 2020

Indictments brought against 21 individuals from Columbia, Danville, Russell Springs, and Liberty, KY and Gainesville, GA, on charges including possession, theft, DUI, assault, rape, trafficking, and unlawful transactions with a minor.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

The Adair County, KY Circuit Court grand jury, Columbia, KY, returned indictments against the following individuals on Tuesday, 14 January 2020:

KSP: RPD reports an officer involved shooting

Elizabethtown, KY. (January 23, 2020) - Kentucky State Police (KSP) investigates an officer involved shooting in Radcliff. On January 23, 2020 at approximately 2:45amET, the Radcliff Police Department (RPD) notified KSP Post 4 that two of their officers had been involved in an officer involved shooting and requested KSP to investigate.

The preliminary investigation revealed at approximately 2:15amET, the Radcliff Police Department was called to 101 Navaho Drive on reports of an armed robbery. Upon officers arrival they discovered an individual wielding a knife outside of the residence.

Kentucky restaurants get national recognition

A Lexington restaurant is getting some national love after being named one of the top 20 new restaurants in 2019 according to OpenTable. Epping's on Eastside made the list with a score of four and a half stars, based on more than 350 reviews that gave it a 93 percent recommended rating. Another Kentucky restaurant, Steak and Bourbon in Louisville, also made the OpenTable list.

LWC Softball releases 2020 schedule

The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team released its 2020 schedule on Thursday, head coach David Dews announced.

Dews enters his seventh season at the head of the softball program as he is the program's all-time coaching wins leader, racking up 281 wins for his career. Last season, he guided the Blue Raiders to a notable 52-5 record including a 21-1 mark in the Mid-South Conference, the best regular-season record. LWC won the MSC tournament before making their seventh consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The Blue Raiders then participated in the 39th Annual NAIA Softball World Series and capped off the season ranking sixth.

To open their 2020 campaign, the Blue Raiders hit the road for Barbourville, KY, to play Union (KY) for the first two games on Feb. 12. Lindsey Wilson will then travel on Feb. 18 for a double-header against Bethel (TN) in McKenzie, Tennessee. LWC will remain on the road to play two games against Stillman (AL) at Gardendale High School in Gardendale, Ala. on Feb. 23.

On Feb. 27 Lindsey Wilson has a single-game home-opener against Indiana Institute of Technology. The Blue Raiders then host a double-header against Huntington (IN) on Feb. 28. LWC will then play Saint Mary (NE) on Feb. 29 at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

EWDC releases December 2019 Unemployment Report

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary December 2019 unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC).

The preliminary December 2019 jobless rate was down 0.1 percentage points from the 4.4 percent recorded for the state in November 2019. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for December 2019 was 3.5 percent, unchanged from November 2019, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Labor force statistics, including the unemployment rate, are based upon estimates from the Current Population Survey of households. The survey is designed to measure trends in the number of people working, and includes jobs in agriculture and individuals who are self-employed.

Jury returns guilty verdict in DUI case

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, an Adair County Circuit Court jury convicted 42-year old Buddy R. Longwell, of Albany, of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Other Substance Which Impairs Driving Ability (DUI), Fourth or Subsequent Offense. The jury also convicted Longwell of being a First-Degree Persistent Felony Offender and recommended that he serve fifteen (15) years in prison.

According to testimony, Kentucky State Police Trooper Allen Shirley observed Longwell operating a Dodge truck traveling south on KY 61 near the Breeding community of Adair County on October 13, 2018. Trooper Shirley witnessed Longwell weaving while driving on the road and conducted a traffic stop after Longwell crossed the centerline of the highway multiple times. According to Trooper Shirley, Longwell admitted that he had consumed Xanax earlier in the day.

"Kentucky Proud grant programs help promote the Commonwealth's local foods and agricultural products," Commissioner Quarles said. "As a result, these grants also help Kentucky family farms and agricultural businesses succeed. The aim of these grants is to help build economic ties that will last long after the grant is awarded."

Manchester Tank open house to be Jan. 29 at CU

Campbellsville, KY - The Manchester Tank & Equipment Co. will hold its open house at Campbellsville University's Student Activity Center, 106 University Drive, Campbellsville, from 2pmET to 6pmET on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Headquartered in Franklin, Tenn., the company is moving to Campbellsville's old Clarcor building because of "its central location, capable workforce and economic partnerships," Jason Roop, director of Campbellsville University's Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center (CUTTC), said.

The event will feature various vendors including the Campbellsville University welding technology staff, CUTTC staff and human resources representatives from Manchester Tank.

EDA: new job openings possible in food and call center

Three new food options set to open this spring - Happy Cow, Cookout and Dairy Queen; also a call center is looking at possibilities of locating in Columbia.

The Adair County Economic Development Authority met Tuesday, January 21, 2020 with all board members in attendance except for Mark Dykes and Chester Taylor who were out for health reasons. Present were: Chairman Bobby Morrison, Adair County Judge Executive Gail Cowan, Treasurer Roger Meadows, Secretary Kinsey Rowe, Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots, and board members Dean Adams and Ann Martin, along with members of the media.

Discussion of economic activities and possibilities included Mayer Hoots' report that Happy Cow will open in the Pinewood Center this month, Cookout Restaurant will open in the old DQ location the end of March or April, and the new Dairy Queen will be going into the location formally owned by CJ Holt and is projected to open the end of May.
