LWC Softball releases 2020 schedule

By Grace Blomstedt

The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team released its 2020 schedule on Thursday, head coach David Dews announced.

Dews enters his seventh season at the head of the softball program as he is the program's all-time coaching wins leader, racking up 281 wins for his career. Last season, he guided the Blue Raiders to a notable 52-5 record including a 21-1 mark in the Mid-South Conference, the best regular-season record. LWC won the MSC tournament before making their seventh consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The Blue Raiders then participated in the 39th Annual NAIA Softball World Series and capped off the season ranking sixth.

To open their 2020 campaign, the Blue Raiders hit the road for Barbourville, KY, to play Union (KY) for the first two games on Feb. 12. Lindsey Wilson will then travel on Feb. 18 for a double-header against Bethel (TN) in McKenzie, Tennessee. LWC will remain on the road to play two games against Stillman (AL) at Gardendale High School in Gardendale, Ala. on Feb. 23.

On Feb. 27 Lindsey Wilson has a single-game home-opener against Indiana Institute of Technology. The Blue Raiders then host a double-header against Huntington (IN) on Feb. 28. LWC will then play Saint Mary (NE) on Feb. 29 at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders get back on the road for a pair of games in Georgia. Lindsey Wilson plays single-games against No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett and (RV) Reinhardt on March 3 and 4, respectively. LWC returns home on March 9 to continue non-conference play with a double-header against Union.

Lindsey Wilson kicks off MSC play with home action on March 13-14 when they take on Thomas More (Ky.) and open MSC road games on April 3-4 when they travel to take on Pikeville (Ky.).

The MSC Tournament is set to be held May 1-3. The NAIA National Championship Opening Round is scheduled to be May 11-13 and the 2020 NAIA World Series is scheduled for May 21-27 in Columbus, Georgia.

In all, Lindsey Wilson plays 10 games against four different teams that received votes in the 2020 NAIA Softball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll.

Lindsey Wilson opens the 2020 season at noon CT on February 12th against Union at Union Field in Barbourville, Kentucky.
