Expression of disdain

2019-10-19 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Mama Cat says little so long as things run fairly close to her preferred schedule. She comes and enjoys her meals, swats her brother, gives herself a bath in the sunshine and then goes for rest. Here, however, she sends a fiery message of disdain with her ears which indicates that it has been, in no way, ok for her human to be out socializing all morning and not serving up lunch on time.

Viewers enjoying new NBC show set in Cumberland area

By Bill Estep, Lexington Herald-Leader

Alvin Sharpe was a little leery when he heard there was a new television show set in Southern Kentucky. "A lot of times they don't depict the area like it ought to be," said Sharpe, a former teacher at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg. That's a common sentiment in Southern and Eastern Kentucky.

So when Sharpe watched the new NBC show, "Perfect Harmony," he was pleased to find not only that it was entertaining, but that he didn't see it portraying people in the area as "dumb hicks."

History: Adair County 'Son' Parker Hardin French

Author Joe Goodbody showcases the story of an Adair County “son” from the mid-nineteenth century: "KENTUCKY BARRACUDA: PARKER HARDIN FRENCH (1826-1878)"

"The Notorious Scoundrel & Delightful Rogue of Antebellum and Civil War America."

After his mother died when he was six, Parker Hardin French spent much of his young formative years in Adair County under the tutelage of his maternal uncle and namesake Parker Calhoun Hardin (1800-1876). Hardin was a prominent lawyer and politician of the period.

The book has been described as a quirky history and a pathologically intriguing profile off one of the most colorful characters of the 19th Century. It has also been compared to the Frank Abagnale story “Catch Me If You Can”. What intrigued Joe Goodbody? His great grandfather was swindled by the Barracuda.
