Friends of Music at CU welcome Mark McVey, Friday, 20 Apr 2018

Performing guest artist Mark McVey earned a Double Platinum record for his participation on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra recording of "The Lost Christmas Eve." He also has three solo CDs: "Broadway and Beyond" "If You Really Knew Me" and "One Among Few," as well as a Family Christmas CD, and much more.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University will present J. Mark McVey, who made his Broadway debut as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables," in a pops concert Friday, April 20, 2018, at 7pmCT/8pmET in Campbellsville University's Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

McVey, who surpassed more than 3,200 performances in "Les Miserables," will be performing with Campbellsville University's Orchestra in the concert sponsored by the Campbellsville University Friends of Music.

Lonnie (Bodgie) Kirk, 83, Cumberland County, KY (1934-2018)

He was a longtime employee of Ernest Simpson Construction Company and a farmer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elvenois Anders Kirk, three brothers, Ralph Dixion Kirk, Luster "Luck" Kirkpatrick, and Malcolm Kirk, Sr., and one sister Sarah Elizabeth Pace. He leaves seven direct living descendants.

Clyde Barkley Satterly, 75, Taylor County, KY (1942-2018)

He is remembered as a kindhearted, solid, responsible man, and leaves a legacy of kindness and honor behind him. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether listening to the coon hounds run or rabbit or deer hunting, and had a knack for landing big bass. And it didn't matter if he was trail riding horses or four wheelers, he always took time to make sure the stray cats were fed and cared for. He leaves eight direct living descendants.

Ember Faith Brockman, eight days, Campbellsville, KY

March 29, 2019 - April 6, 2018

Precious baby girl, the daughter of Whitney Floyd and Chase Brockman, was the twin sister of Bently Dakota Brockman and the sister of Nevaeh Grace Morgan Brockman, all of whom survive. Although born with numerous physical ailments, she continually fought hard and lived long enough to feel the love of a family, and expressed hers back with a beautiful smile.

The co-founder of the town of Columbia made a rare appearance at the Adair Public Library on Monday night, April 2nd. The Adair Genealogical Society in partnership with the Adair Public Library, hosted an unprecedented visit from the late, great Colonel Daniel Trabue at the regular meeting of the ACGS. Our own Richard Phelps brought the program with tremendous emotion.

Daniel Trabue was a true Kentucky frontiersman, Revolutionary War soldier, and early settler, who resided first in Fayette County, on Grier's Creek which was later encompassed by Woodford County, then migrated to the wilds of Green County.

COLUMBIA, KY - (Fri 06 Apr 2018) The Lindsey Wilson baseball team completed the three-game Mid-South Conference series sweep of Shawnee State on Friday with a 12-0 victory in seven innings at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders (18-18, 7-4 MSC) outscored the Bears (12-18, 1-10 MSC) 28-5 over the three-game series. Lindsey Wilson outhit Shawnee State 12-5 in the game today and totaled 38 hits over the three games.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 5, 2018) -- Commercial anglers netted nearly 42 tons of invasive Asian carp from Kentucky and Barkley lakes during the inaugural Carp Madness tournament in 2013. Carp Madness returns to the lakes in June with a new twist: it's a tournament for bow anglers. The top prize is $10,000 for the team on the winning boat in each division, with total prizes of $23,000.

The tournament begins at 7pmCT, June 23, and continues until 7amCT, June 24, 2018. Launch is set for the Kentucky Dam Marina Boat Ramp at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, 113 Administration Drive, Gilbertsville, KY. Bowfishing anglers may harvest any of the Asian carp, including the silver, bighead, grass and black carp.

KY Color: Russell Creek Bog - Cattails & Large Black Willow

Cattails are sure sign of bog and black willows thrive in boggy areas, growing to giant size in Adair County. At one time, a black willow near the Roadside Park on KY 55 S Road was listed as the largest in Kentucky, until a taller one was found in far western KY.

Black Willow and Cattails are a sure sign of a bog or at the very least, a perennially wet area. This bog is located just outside the Columbia city limits just off East 80.

The Cattails are last years growth and will soon settle into the muck and mire to contribute to the peat layer. Already the new growth is sprouting from what Euell Gibbons' described as the "edible part" of Cattails, the root.

The hottest news in Aprll 6, 1938 -- eighty years ago today -- edition of the Adair County News was that baseballer Stanley "Lefty" Rosebaum, late of Fairplay and lately a school teacher, "whose speed and curves enabled him to defeat all college opposition" during his days with the Lindsey Wilson nine, recently had joined the Greenwood, Mississippi, Dodgers, one of the teams in the Cotton States league.)

He a Veteran of U.S. Army service and a former gate hauler. He was a native of Casey County, KY, the son of the late Oscar Lee Pettyjohn and Mayme C. Harrod Pettyjohn. His wife, Betty Ann Phelps Pettyjohn, survives. He leaves a large family to carry on his legacy.

John David McKinley, 65, Taylor County, KY (1952-2018)

He was co-owner of McKinley Monument Company with his brother, Mark. When he wasn't working in the family business he could be found at his cabin watching the deer or a Nascar race, out on the tractor or ATV enjoying the great outdoors, hunting or taking his grandchildren fishing, or at a family gathering grilling up something special for the ones he loved so dearly. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Saloma Baptist Church. He was member of a prominent Taylor County, KY, family, the son of the late Adolphus L. McKinley and Sue Kathryn Thomas McKinley. His wife Missy Baker McKinley, survives. He leaves a large extended family in Taylor, Green, Metcalfe and elsewhere, to carry on his legacy.
