KSP Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY introduces two new troopers

Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY -Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown would like to welcome two new Troopers. On Friday, January 16, 2015, Trooper Joseph Borders and Trooper Scott Wheatley graduated from the KY State Police Academy class #92. during a ceremony in Frankfort.

Trooper Borders is from Louisville, KY and a 2005 graduate of Trinity High School. He attended the University Of Louisville before working for the Bowling Green Police Dept then the Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Dept. for 5 years. Trooper Borders is 28 years old and will be assigned to Hardin County.

Trooper Wheatley is from Springfield, KY and a 2009 graduate of Washington Co. High School. He holds an Associate Degree from ECTC in Machine/Tool. He is currently working on his Bachelors in Occupational Safety from Eastern KY University. Trooper Wheatley is 24 years old and will also be assigned to Hardin County.

Mid-South Conference championships headed to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, KY - Multiple Mid-South Conference championships are headed to Bowling Green beginning in February 2015, conference officials announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

The Mid-South Conference includes nine full members and six associate members in six states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. The coordinating efforts of several athletic facilities and community sponsorships helped bring the Mid-South Conference to Bowling Green,. KY.

"We're confident that Bowling Green and Warren County will offer our student-athletes and coaches a first-class championship experience with outstanding facilities, hotels, restaurants and amenities, not to mention exceptional hospitality," Eric Ward, Mid-South Conference Commissioner, said.

TCSO, rescue at the scene of a farm fatality, Merrimac area

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office and the Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue are on the scene of what is believed to be a farm fatality accident in the Merrimac community of Taylor County. Apparently a farm worker got caught in the mechanism of a grain elevator and was unable to extricate himself.

Sheriff Allan Newton said the name of the victim is not being released, but he thinks a press release will be available later this evening. Larry Smith, Operations Manager Shoreline Communications.

Mrs. Janice (Jan) Watson Key, Cumberland Co., KY (1945-2015)

She was a member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ and was the Director of Purchasing for 45-plus years at Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, KY. She was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time her death. She was the daughter of rude and Bernice Neeley Watson. Her husband of 45 years, Wayne Key, survives. She leaves three direct living descendants.

KY 55 shut down in Taylor Co. to clear multi-vehicle collision

Update: 2:49CT/3:49ET: One lane of traffic is now open. At least one person airlifted. The collision is in the Willowdale Section of Taylor County, KY.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but traffic is stopped in both directions near the intersection of New Columbia Road and Tebbs Bend Road as authorities work a multi-vehicle accident. At this time, 2:24pmCT/3:24pmET, there is a report of entrapment by one occupant. A helicopter is en route to the scene.

Traffic is backing up, as one detour route, through Tebb's Bend Road, can't be utilized because the Tebb's Bend Bridge is being removed to make way for a new one.

Taylor County Sheriff's Department, Allen Newton, sheriff, is in charge of the investigation. We expect to have more details soon. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications.

Terry Howell, 68, Adair Co., KY native, (d. 18 Jan 2015)

He was President and one of the founders of Group Benefit Systems, and a member of West End Community Church where he was active in Bible Study Fellowship for 24 years. He attended Western Kentucky University, graduated from the University of Tennessee at Nashville, and was an avid tennis player. He was a member of a highly regarded Adair County, KY family. He was the son of Dimple Howell and the late Edward Joseph Howell. His wife, Mary Howell, survives.

Traffic Alert: SB I-65 delays possible between Glendale, Sonora

Interstate 65 Southbound will be reduced to one lane today, Wed 20 Jan 2015, as crews repair pavement between Mile Points 86 (Glendale) and 81 (Sonora). The right lane and shoulders will be closed. Work is scheduled to begin at 7amCT and should be completed by the end of the day.

Southbound delays will be possible. Motorists may wish to seek an alternate route such as US 31W. Commercial thru traffic may wish use the Western Kentucky Parkway (Exit 91) to the Natcher Parkway and rejoin I65 in Bowling Green.
