KY 55 shut down in Taylor Co. to clear multi-vehicle collision

Update: 2:49CT/3:49ET: One lane of traffic is now open. At least one person airlifted. The collision is in the Willowdale Section of Taylor County, KY.

By Larry Smith, 99.9 FM The Big Dawg, 92.7 The WAVE

Details are sketchy at the moment, but traffic is stopped in both directions near the intersection of New Columbia Road and Tebbs Bend Road as authorities work a multi-vehicle accident. At this time, 2:24pmCT/3:24pmET, there is a report of entrapment by one occupant. A helicopter is en route to the scene.

Traffic is backing up, as one detour route, through Tebb's Bend Road, can't be utilized because the Tebb's Bend Bridge is being removed to make way for a new one.

Taylor County Sheriff's Department, Allen Newton, sheriff, is in charge of the investigation. We expect to have more details soon. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications.
