ADAIR Band takes Grand Champion at Lincoln Days

Grand Champions!

By Shamarie Claiborne

The ADAIR Band turned in another awesome performance today and are the Grand Champions for the Lincoln Days Marching Band Festival in Hodgenville, KY.

The band was also the Best Overall Band in 3A, had the Best Percussion in 3A, and took first place in 3A.

It was a super day for Columbia, KY, with a stellar performance by the Lindsey Wilson Marching Band, in exhibition, whose director is Mr. Tim Allen. The host band, the LaRue County, under the direction of Adair Countian Jaime Smith gave a rousing performance, too. Neighbor Russell County High School won reserve Grand Champion and other awards.

Right now, as I send this, a very excited ADAIR Band is ready to take the field to give the sole encore performance, an honor reserved for the Grand Champions. We're so proud of them all! - Shamarie Claiborne.

Highway conditions at East 80 and Jamestown

By Roger D Smith DMD
Personal Commentary

I was wondering what kind of plans, if any, are being made to correct the muddy mess at the intersection of Jamestown St. and Hwy 80.

I enjoy green spaces as much as anyone and I am sure the new CVS store has followed the new zoning regulations concerning this, but there have to be exceptions to every rule.

Kentucky Color: Farmers Wreath

Kentucky Color: Farmers Wreath Click on headline for full essay with photo(s)

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

I came upon the "Farmers Wreath" in the accompanying photo, recently, while exploring in the far reaches of the Great Wooded South. This wreath is constructed from barbed wire but not just your run of the mill barbed wire. The barbed wire used in this wreath is known around these parts as Japanese barbed wire.

Thinks Knifley Road money could have been better spent on Double S Hill at Yuma

Jon Halsey writes:
I know this will shock a lot of your readers but I'm REALLY a glass half-full kind of guy but here I go again.

The section marked for repaving is among the better parts of 76. There is really not much wrong with the road surface in that area.

If they really wanted to make a contribution they could save up their pennies until they had enough to straighten out that hazardous double S hill at Yuma. I can't begin to recall how many times I've had to change my drawers going around one of those blind narrow curves when someone (Sorry ladies but it's usually some young female) comes flying the other way on or over the yellow line. And then to add insult to injury they usually give me a look that seems to express anger that I would have the temerity to be on "their road".

Just saying... Jon Halsey, Knifley
