News from Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY - When the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team needed a kill on Friday night, it knew right where to look as Sarah Anderson and Courtney Doyle fired 11 kills each to help top UVa-Wise 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-12) in the Mid-South Conference Crossover Classic at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders fell behind by a single point near the start of each set, but as play progressed they built leads in each frame as large as 11, 15 and 15 points, respectively.

It was hard not to do well as Lindsey Wilson tallied a .441 hitting percentage while limiting the Cavaliers to an even mark at .000 after connecting for 18 kills and 18 errors. Anderson and Doyle were the catalysts, matching each other with 11-for-17 hitting performances for a .529 percentage.

Taylor Hayne backed the duo up with eight kills in 14 swings for a .500 percentage. While a kill was hard to find for UVa.-Wise, it was led by Maya Hamlett with seven on 15 swings, although she committed five errors.

Lindsey Wilson built an 11-point lead in the opening set at 21-10 as Anderson put a ball away off an Andrea Taylor set. Taylor finished with 36 assists in the match. The first set came to a close with two straight kills from Doyle.

After trailing 3-1 early in the second set, Lindsey Wilson got back on track and took a 21-7 lead after a service ace by Taylor. The Blue Raiders dominated on serve, collecting nine aces in the match while the Cavaliers failed to hit one.

Kala Meservey had a good run in the set as well, staying on serve for seven straight points as she started with an 11-6 lead and stopped serving with a 17-7 advantage.

The third set followed the earlier script as the Blue Raiders led just 4-3 at the start, but quickly turned the page with a 6-0 run. Eventually taking a 15-7 lead on a Cavalier error, Lindsey Wilson continued its hot streak with a 6-1 run to put the match away at 21-8.

Meservey provided the final kill of the night on match point off an assist by Taylor, who closed play with three straight successful sets.

Kailey Moorhead led the defensive effort for the Blue Raiders with three blocks, while also going 5-for-9 on the attack. Hamlett backed up her offensive output by also leading UVa.-Wise in blocks with three as well. - Dan White Lindsey Wilson returns to the court at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY, at 2pmCT, Saturday, September 29, 2012 against Bluefield, of Bluefield, VA, which lost to Campbellsville 3-0 in the opening match of the classic.
