A Sonnet For 9/11 -by- Robert H. Stone

A Sonnet For 9/11
by Robert Stone

There are no terrorists but only those
who hope their victims will be terrified.
The motives prompting those who struck the blows
are never known by those who quickly died.

When many lives are lost so jumbled close,
it seems that Death has come in triumph grand
but Death is pouring out its daily dose
both far and wide and near and narrow planned.

One here one there another down the way
the count is mounting but it stays unknown.
There is no place in charity's survey
for those who die unhomed, unloved, alone.

Remember thousands lost in easy view
but grieve as well those gone without a clue.

Doesn't travel Bypass much for fear of accident

About:Two vehicle crash at Greensburg ST/CWB crossing

How many more lives have to be changed or killed before we act on this intersection. Obviously the flashing stop signs aren't working. Maybe we need to consider redoing the roads all together and put the original roads back the way they were.

It's humorous how traditions are kept up

About:Memory Circling the Square CR and Jim Dandy

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Wow! It's humorous how "traditions" are kept up! In the early 80s, that's what we did too! We'd circle the courthouse, cruise up Jamestown ST, circle the old Pizza Hut, then around Sonic, back down around Circle R, and finally, back around the square. With the music blaring and windows down, youd try to see how many of your friends were out doing the same thing! Do the teenagers in Columbia still do that, or has the price of gas stopped it all?

Number of eggs in setting depends on breed of chicken

About:Henhouse science: How many eggs in a setting?
To Columbia Magazine.com:

How dare Billy Joe let us down...

A setting of eggs for a large breed of hen is 15. For a small hen it is 13.

Why the odd numbers, you ask? It increases the odds of hatching more pullets than roosters, which is desirable.

Thinks crossing needs a stoplight

About: Two vehicle crash at Greensburg ST/CWB crossing

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:I truly feel that a stoplight is needed at this intersection. I do take this intersection at times and the stop signs and the blinking lights are not that great. At times only one is working and I truly believe that people do forgot that they there. So many people have been hurt and one would think that the bypass was a good thing, but it has turned out to be deadly.

Whomever is in charge of making these decisions should consider putting up a stop light before something bad does happen. I hope those that were in the accident today are okay and no one was seriously injured.

Becky StatonTaylor

Sadly, the crash is now designated a fatal collision by the investigating law enforcement agency. The decision as to whether to install a stop light is the responsibility of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's -EW

Second thoughts on value of bypass to Adair County

About: Two vehicle crash at Greensburg ST/CWB crossing

To ColumbiaMagazine.com
BR>Does anyone see any good this bypass has brought to Adair County? Whats it going to take to find a solution to prevent the accidents and tradegy on this road? With all the wasted tax dollars that went into this project surely there could of been a better outcome.

Memory: Circling the Square, Circle R, and Jim Dandy

About: Deepfried hotdogs were at old Jim Dandy

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I don't remember eating at Jim Dandy but I do remember circling the Jim Dandy. It was part of the loop you made on Saturday nights. You started going around the Courthouse Square then on to the Circle R then around Jim Dandy. You usually stopped at the Circle R to visit with friends who were also making the loop around those places. Not much to do in Columbia back in the 1960s.

Setting: 8-12 eggs, Carol Goodin Parker remembers

About: Henhouse science: How many eggs in a setting

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Seems to me Mom put 8-12 eggs under the hen, depending on how fat the "settin' hen" was. I remember having to look under the setting hens to see if other hens had laid eggs in their nests. The eggs without the marks were the fresh eggs. I DID NOT like that job at all! Sometimes the "settin' hens" were very moody.
