Dr. Stephens: Welcome back, Adair County students!

By Dr. Pamela Stephens, Superintendent
Adair County Schools

Governor Andy Beshear recently signed an executive order that goes into effect March 1 regarding Kentucky schools reopening in a face-to-face format. I am pleased to announce the Adair County Board and I, along with the staff of Adair County schools, are thrilled to welcome all students back into our buildings on Monday, March 22, 2021.

Parents and students, we have heard your voices indicating you want schools opened for in-person learning and we have listened. This is an exciting time for our students as this will be the first time some classmates will have been in classes together since last March 13.

The March 22 date corresponds with the beginning of the final grading period for this academic year. The hybrid schedule will end on Friday, March 19, 2021.

The new schedule structure will be four days a week face-to-face, and Wednesdays will remain virtual for the remainder of the year for all preschool through 12th grade students.

A virtual option does remain in place for those students who are currently on a virtual schedule; however, those students may return in person on March 22 if they choose to do so.

By Anastasia Gentry

Campbellsville, KY - Gerald Smith, pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church and professor at the University of Kentucky, was Campbellsville University's Black History Month speaker and talked about "adjustments" in life.

Smith gave a personal story about how a pilot on one of his flights made adjustments when they were facing turbulence from the harsh winds.

Smith made this connection as we serve a mighty God who is able to make adjustments here on earth, that we don't have to deal with harsh winds because of God making divine adjustments.

Bluebirds perished in ice and snow storms

By Wendy Butler Burt

Cleaning out your bird houses is a very sad task this year

An annual February ritual here on Melson Ridge and elsewhere around the state is the necessary task of cleaning out bird houses in anticipation of the fast-approaching Spring nesting season. This year, this was a very sad task. Almost every bluebird house contained one or more newly-dead bluebirds.

They all froze or starved to death during last week's snow, ice, and bitter, bitter cold. You may know that bluebirds pile together into birdhouses (or other nesting cavities) to shelter from bad weather. But last week's horrible, icy, and cold onslaught was just too much for them.

My husband and I made the sad circuit of our bird houses this afternoon and found 10 dead, beautiful bluebirds.

Adair Recycling Center closure hopefully temporary

By Linda Waggener

In the face of the Fiscal Court's closure of the Adair County Recycling Center in January, Bridget Compton is hoping it is only a temporary solution to budget problems. She will continue holding responsibility for Solid Waste since most of her responsibilities have been dealing with grants and taking care of the necessary reporting for the County.

She said, "It saddens me the recycling center had to be shut down temporarily. I hope in the upcoming fiscal year the budget allows it to reopen. So many within the community utilized the services of the recycling center and I was seeing growth and excited about getting a new vendor but then COVID hit right after our first pickup and we lost inmate labor which left one person tackling the day to day operations.
