Letter: adding Effie Heskamp's name in Columbia UMC story

Ann Curtis writes in response to Yvonne Marshall's story:

So glad to see and hear from Yvonne! I spent my growing up years singing in the choir at the Methodist Church with her. She had such a beautiful voice, and I especially remember accompanying her on the piano when she sang “O Holy Night” at Christmas.

Could you please add my mother Effie Heskamp’s name to the list? She was a lifelong member, until her death in 2009 at age 98. Over the years, she was active in all areas of church life, from choir director (in the years before I was born), choir member and United Methodist Women. - Thanks so much, Ann

Ann, thank you so much for reminding me to add your beautiful mother's name to those listed and for the good memories of the Columbia UMC choir! - Linda

In-car option for CUMC Communion

By Rev. Robert E. Hoffman
Columbia United Methodist Church

This Sunday, September 13, 2020, we will be celebrating Holy Communion during our 10amCT service. We have individually sealed elements and I will serve individuals in their seats with no passing of the trays.

Also - for those who do not feel comfortable coming inside yet, we have another option. You can bring your phone, laptop or tablet and park close to the church building in order to get wifi access to participate in the service and liturgy online. Then, during the distribution of the elements, I will come to the back parking lot and serve people in their vehicles.

Birthday Present To Myself

By Phillip Coffey

Always take the high ground exchanging thoughts.
Faint hope with innate fears unabated.
Fuel not the flames of those distraught.
Meek in spirit never over-rated.

Kind, Honest, thoughtful always to all.
Seek not the wisdom of the disparaging.
Slow the gait, filter out the anger installed.
Vapor of life chiefly about caring.

Have a Very Happy Birthday Philip Coffey!

New flat surface KY license plates make debut

By Chuck Wolfe

Frankfort, KY - A new kind of Kentucky license plate has begun appearing on motor vehicles in the Commonwealth.

The most significant difference is in their manufacture - digitally printed on flat aluminum instead of traditional, embossed metal with raised letters and numbers.

The larger, unseen difference will be in savings to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) on storage space, bulk manufacturing and unused inventory. With digital technology, standard and specialty license plates can be produced as needed rather than having to be mass-produced.
