Robert Cumming: When was life being pretty good - and cheap on Lake Cumberland

Robert Cumming writes:
I can remember life being pretty good (and cheap) on the lake, when it wasn't so crowded, while a kid back in the old! In 1961 my parents bought an acre of lakefront land overlooking Greasy Creek from the Corps of Engineers for only $500! According to the Quit Claim deed issued by the Dept. of the Army, it was from a tract sold by Thenora Humble to the US Govt. when the lake was created in 1951. Some good advice from Maury Lewis: Visit Trabue Russell House

Maury Lewis writes to ColumbiaMagazine.com:
You or Linda one need to go and take some pictures of the garden at the Trabue-House before it rains again. Everything is blooming. I just left it. The flowers beside the chimney will be in bloom this week end or next week. - Maury
Thanks, Maury - We went Monday in time for some magic afternoon moments at the Trabue-Russell House - 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY - and the Garden Club's work is already worth anybody's time. We got pictures, including the first one attached to this note, "Everything's coming up roses in the TRH rose garden," in the Julia Miller Horton Rose Garden, which should tease others to watch for the announced Grand Openings predicted within it. - EW
