DOCJT: Boyd and Houk among Dispatch Academy graduates Kayla Boyd of the Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Communications Center and Zechariah Houk of the Campbellsville Police Department among 25 to complete training. By Kelly Foreman Richmond, KY - Twenty-five law enforcement dispatchers graduated Friday from the Public Safety Dispatch Academy at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training. This class included nine trainees of distinction. Dispatch basic training is mandatory for any sworn or civilian employee who will dispatch law enforcement officers by radio at a Criminal Justice Information Systems agency. DOCJT also provides in-service and leadership training for Kentucky public safety dispatchers and law enforcement officers. The graduates hail from communications centers across the state, and comprise DOCJT's 117th telecommunications academy class, which first began in 1999. Unemployment improves year-to-year in most local counties By Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Annual unemployment rates decreased in 80 Kentucky counties in 2017 compared to 2016, rose in 24 and stayed the same in 16, according to the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics (KCEWS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Locally, unemployment was down year to year in Adair, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor counties, unchanged in Casey Co., and up a tenth of a percent in Green Co. since 2016.

Edmonton is 200! Metcalfe County not quite as old! Metcalfe County was carved Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Hart and Monroe Counties, in 1860, with almost all from one county. (Guess & Test which one ceded the much & percent, then click headline for a 'Know Your County Better test). Edmonton was laid out as a town and Edmund Rogers began selling lots in 1819. From Gaye Shaw, Executive Director, Edmonton/Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce The question has been asked how Edmonton could be celebrating their 200th anniversary when it has not been fifty years since the entire community celebrated the sesquicentennial in 2010. According to "Metcalfe County, Our History in Pictures" published by the Metcalfe County Historical Society, Metcalfe County was recognized as a county May 1, in 1860 from a large portion of land then known as Barren County. Pam Dailey: Little ten-petal flower may be Star Chickweed Pam Dailey writes: I am no expert, but after a walk in the woods yesterday, I had to go on the US Wildflower's Database and find this one. I THINK it is a Star Chickweed. The other choice is in the bloodroot family. But the size of this flower and the shape of the leaves in the photo AND the petal description leans toward Star Chickweed.
