Christmas in Columbia is Saturday, 2 December 2017

The annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas in Columbia celebration happens this Saturday, December 2, 2017. The theme is "A Bluegrass Christmas" and the full day of activities has come to be a major event in Adair County.

Events kick off at 6:30amCT with the Edgar Troutman Memorial Rotary Breakfast at the Columbia Baptist Church until to 9:30amCT. There is a $5 per person charge.

The historic Adair County Courthouse opens for the Adair Heritage Association Christmas Arts and Crafts sale at 9amCt and goes through lunchtime until 2pmCT. There will be light food and drink available for a donation for those who want to keep shopping.

Mary Catherine Gaines, Taylor Co., KY, (1928-2017)

Mary Catherine Gaines had a way of always seeing good in everything, could always make you smile and had faith that God would work things out for the best. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after thirty plus years of service.

Mary Catherine Gaines died at 7:38pmET Monday, November 27, 2017 in Campbellsville at the age of 89. She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after thirty plus years of service.

Visitation will be from 9amET - 12noon, Thursday, November 30, 2017. The funeral service will be held at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by John David Gaines. Entombment will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be: Craig Benningfield, Stephen Coomer, Jacob Dudgeon, Darian Gray, Jeffrey Johnson and Eddie Rogers.

Henry L. Cummings, 90, Burkesville, KY (1927-2017)

He was a member of Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having attained the rank of Sergeant, and a Yard Conductor for Nickle Plate Railroad.

Mr. Henry L. Cummings, formerly of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio

The funeral service will be conducted at 1pmCT on Sunday, December 10, 2017 in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 North Main Street,, Burkesville, KY. Burial will follow in the Rose of Sharon Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. The family will receive friends after 11:30amCT on Sunday, December 10, 2017 until the funeral hour.

LWC men's soccer falls to Marymount

Delray Beach, FL - The No. 7-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team fell to the No. 10-seed Marymount (Calif.) 1-0 on a late goal by the Mariners at the NAIA National Tournament.

LWC was outshot in the contest 14-10 as the two programs tied in shots on goal with three each.

Nell Hash, 75, Campbellsville, KY (1942-2017)

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of 3trees Church. She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom and a former teacher's assistant at Taylor County Elementary. She was a native of Taylor County, KY, and was a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Elzie DeSpain & Goldie Allen DeSpain and the widow of Harlan Hash. She leaves two direct living descendants.

Mrs. Esther Frances Warf Thompson Wiley, Green County, KY (1920-2017)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Lowell Avenue Baptist Church, Campbellsville, KY. She was a former Machine Operator for Fruit of the Loom, Inc. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed making crafts and painting. She was an outstanding member of the community. She was the daughter of the late Caffrie Warf and Nellie Frances Perkins Warf, and the widow first of Freeman Thompson, her husband of 51 years, and later of Lyron H. Whiley, with whom she shared over 30 years of marriage. She leaves 24 direct living descendants.

LWC Volleyball sweeps TX Wesleyan in Championship opener

SIOUX CITY, IOWA - (Tue 28 Nov 2017 - Top-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball cruised in its opening match of the 2017 NAIA Volleyball National Championship, presented by Delta Hotels, defeating Texas Wesleyan 3-0 on Tuesday at the Tyson Events Center.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson (29-0) improves to 1-0 in pool play. The Blue Raiders face Jamestown (ND) on Wednesday and Cornerstone (MI) on Thursday to close out the pool play stage of the national championship.

She was a poised outgoing young woman with a heartmelting smile who leaves many, many, friends and admirers. She was a member of New Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, a resident assistant with Journey to Independent Living, a cashier at Five Star and a proud member of the 1992 ACHS Lady Indians State Tournament Team. She was a precocious athlete who lettered on the varsity team while just an eighth grader. She was the daughter of father Anthony Bridgewater, and mother and step-father Valenia & David Johnson. She leaves two direct living descendants, children Travez Edward Taylor and Ta'Leahah Shante Taylor

One driver injured, one arrested in three vehicle collision

COLUMBIA, KY - (Tue 28 Nov 2017) Tpr. Daniel Forbis is investigating a collision that occurred at 10:04 EST at the intersection of US 150 and Murray Smith Lane.

66-year-old Diana Morgan, of Willisburg, KY was operating a westbound 2008 Dodge van on US 150. Morgan stopped in the roadway to make a left turn onto Murray Smith Lane when a westbound 2000 Toyota car struck the van in the rear.

George H. (Joe) Lillis (1952-2017), husband of Susan Long Lillis

On Sunday, 26 Nov 2017, Susan Long Lillis wrote, "For three years in a row now I've have to say goodbye. This morning around 2 a.m. my husband and best friend, Joe Lillis decided it was time to go check for code violations in heaven. Our life together of 8 years couldn't have been more complete. Even though he had promised me twenty he said he was tired and probably wasn't going to be able to keep that promise. I told him I understood and would love him forever. I know he is not suffering anymore and is at peace but it is so hard to say goodbye. I'll miss you Joe and love you always."--Susan Long Lillis
(Susan and her sister Cindi Alexander lost their mother Pat Hare in 2015, and their sister Cathy Akin last year.)

Funeral service for Joe will be conducted at 5pmCT/6pmET Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, KY, with his brother, Rev. John Lillis, and Rev. Joe Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 3pmCT/4pmET until service time at the funeral home. There will be no graveside service as Joe had requested to be cremated.

Adair County 4-H will be attending 4-H Summer Camp June 18-22, 2018. This year for the first time in a few years Adair County has the opportunity to take 2 cabins of girls to camp. The past few years we have only been able to take 1 cabin of girls. However to take advantage of this great opportunity, we must have at least 2-3 more adult females to attend as Adult Leaders. Adult Leaders will stay in female cabins with the Adair County youth and help to supervise youth during the week long camp.

Barbara Jean Green, 71, Adair County, KY (1946-2017)

She attended Free Union Separate Baptist Church and was secretary of Mid-State Pipeline. She was a member of a large, highly regarded East Adair County family. She was the daughter of the late Raymond & Emily McCorkle Powell. Her husband, L.C. Green, survives. She leaves 12 direct living descendants.
