Harvey Henry Estes, 86, Metcalfe Co., KY (1931-2017)

He was a farmer and a member of the Red Lick United Methodist Church. He was the patriarch of a large, respected Metcalfe County, KY family. He was the son of the late Ellis & Emma Jessee Estes, and the widower of Clara Mae Estes. He leaves eight direct living descendants.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Monday, October 9, 2017, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Jessee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm until 8pmCT, Sunday, October 8, 2017, and after 9amCT, Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sandra Dee Mills, 52, Taylor County, KY (1965-2017)

She was a Regional Director of the Texas Medical Diagnostic Center and was a proud mother and grandmother. She professed faith in Christ and was of the Pentecostal faith. She loved spending time with her family, and often took them on shopping excursions, camping, fishing, or anything else she could think of to bring everyone together. Handy at home improvement projects, she also found solace in nature, and was gifted at making flower arrangements or other crafts. She was a native of Ft. Thomas, KY, and a resident of Campbellsville, KY, at the time of her death. She leaves 10 direct living descendants with another on the way.

Bro. Bob Turner will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, West Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 11amCT/12pmNoonET until time for the service.

Ruby Marie Furkin, 71, Adair Co., KY (1945-2017)

She worked at Union Underwear for a number of years and worked at Westlake Home Health and she attended the Sparksville Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of a respected South Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Ancel Thomas & Gladys Marie Franklin Janes. Her husband, Norman Furkin, survives. She leaves 12 direct living descendants.

Petty promoted to Assistant VP and Loan Officer at F&FNB

The First & Farmers National Bank, Columbia, KY, recently announced the promotion of Candace Petty to Assistant Vice President and Loan Officer. The announcement was made on behalf of First and Farmers National Bank Board of Directors by Columbia President Ann Martin.

Candace Petty is excited to begin this new responsibility serving the loan needs of Adair County. "I can honestly say that I absolutely love my job here at First & Farmers. I am delighted and feel fortunate for the opportunity that First & Farmers National Bank has extended to me and my family," stated Petty.

Next Adair cleanup: old electronics October 16-21 week, 2017

Adair Recycling Center, 32 Service Road, Columbia, KY / 270-378-0782. Hours: Mon-Tue-Wed from 7am-3pmCT. Thu-Fri Bins are available outside; Supervisor will be in and out of shelter from 7am-3pmCT.
Old electronic waste collection -- items such as laptop and desktop computers, LCD monitors, hard drives, modems, plug and play devices, printers, scanners, copiers, telephone equipment, fax machines, power backups and transformers, office equipment, wires and cables, circuit boards, video game systems, DVD/CD/VCR players, miscellaneous home entertainment systems, small electronic household appliances, CRT monitors and CRT televisions -- will be accepted.

Free disposal of electronics for Adair County residents will be held Saturday, October 16-21, 2017 at the county road department located at 62 Service Drive in Columbia.

The week of October 16-21 will be electronic waste collection at the Adair County Recycling Center. While electronics are collected at other times at the recycling center, October 16-21 will have bins set up specifically to receive electronic waste. Through Eastern KY PRIDE, Adair County received grant funds dedicated to proper disposal of these electronic recyclables.

Tabernacle Christian Church, 13175 Liberty Rd., Columbia, KY, will be having Homecoming on Sunday morning, October 22, 2017, with Sunday School beginning at 9:30amCT, and morning worship beginning at 10:20amCT. A potluck meal will be served in the church basement following the morning worship service. Evangelist will be Bro Kenny Dotson, minister at Mannsville Christian Church. Sunday night, 29 Oct 2017 will be the final night of our revival services.

Adair health fair made possible by TJ Health, LWC and GSF

The TJ Health Columbia Health Fair will be held Saturday October 28, 2017 from 7am to 10:30amCT.

Lab pre-draw dates are Thursday, October 12; Friday, October 13; Monday, October 16; Tuesday, October 17; Wednesday, October 18 from 6:30 to 9:30amCT and Saturday, October 28 from 7 to 10:30amCT. Blood work, flu shots and vascular screenings will be available each day.

The TJ Health Columbia Health Fair includes: Basic Lab Panel, Lipid Panel and PSA testing for males. We will also offer bone density screening, height & weight, blood pressure and body mass index.

Big 36th Pumpkin Festival all day TODAY, Sat 07 Oct 2017

With Fall Break in many schools in the area, advice is in order: There's a lot to see in South Central Kentucky. Today, for thousands, it will be the 36th Annual Metcalfe County Pumpkin Festival, centered around the Metcalfe County Historic Court Yard, 100 E Stockton Street, Edmonton, KY, with exciting events and exhibits and contests starting at 6amCT and continuing throughout the day until the big concert from 4pmCT until 80pmCT featuring the Cassidy Dance Band and the Hornet's Nest Pickers. It's free, for the best seats, come early, bring your own lawn chair.

There will also be events at Bowling Community Park, at the Metcalfe County Fairgrounds, at the Historic Jail, at the Metcalfe County Library, at Metcalfe Drug Store, as well as a Pumpkin Festival Parade.
