Dr. Charles Giles: Outstanding Health Advocate

By Easton Bryant

First, I'd like to say that through the years of attending this banquet, I'm always entertained by the suspense factor some presenters bring before us in their speeches. Sometimes I have no clue which nominee they share a connection with. I listen to the nominee's accomplishments and their history and I'm thinking, "This is an awesome person! Why don't I know who this is?" By the end of their speech, I'm on the edge of my seat wondering who they're speaking of.

I won't mention their name until the end and I'll try to be subtle, but I doubt you'll have any difficulty figuring out who our winner is this evening.

While some of you may enjoy that suspense as well, I'm afraid I can't provide that factor this evening. Tonight's winner is one of the most well-known, well-respected, and well-loved members of our community.

Lisa Smith Loy: Outstanding Professional/Business Woman

By Ben Arnold MPH, PhD

Don't we have a great little town? Not because of buildings and things but because of our great people -- like this one -- Lisa Smith Loy. I add Smith to remember Bobby Smith, her dad, a great guy.

Lisa is important to us both personally and professionally -- she does all my tax returns, some a bit difficult. I used to go to louisville and pay twice as much for half the work.

Lisa is always in the trenches with me working on Spectrum Care, helping in many ways.

J.D. Zornes: Outstanding Professional/Business Man

By Adam Zornes, written with his brother Kyle

I don't get back home that often, so don't feel bad if you don't remember me. If it helps, try to imagine me clean shaven, half my age, and about a hundred pounds lighter.

My mother and brother are the public speakers of the family. I take after my father, the more shy and reserved type -- just what you want in an attorney. That being said, he has always been there for me. When Mom asked me to come up here and introduce him, I jumped at the chance to say a few things he'd be too modest to mention.

One morning as I was sitting on the edge of the bed trying to conjure up enough energy to stand on my feet, Guy said from the bathroom, "What is that red in your hair?" I thought he meant hair color. "No, it's not color; you have something bright red on the left side," he said as he shaved. I moved him from the bathroom mirror to see if I saw blood. Was my head bleeding?
