Rollin Knifley: Differs with writer on largest military installation Rollin Knifley writes: I think Mr. Halsey is mistaken about Ft Knox being the largest military installation in the United States. At 109,000 acres, it is the largest in KY. Ft Campbell has about 102,000 acres, but most of that is actually in Tennessee. White Sands Missile Range is the largest military installation in the US at just under 3200 square miles. Jon Halsey: Wonders how military bases skew numbers Comments re article 89475 Wallethub Link Kentucky most Federally Dependent State in US Jon Halsey writes: I can''t help but wonder how Ft. Knox, the largest military installation in the United States along with Ft. Campbell home to the 101st Airborne and the large Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond factored into these findings. Unfortunately, the article the Methodology section is abysmally short on details. One is left to assume that the Federal dollars flowing into the State in whatever form as a direct result of these three entities has skewed the numbers sufficiently to preclude any practical application or decisions based on this data.Jon Halsey - Good points. But when I had read the story, I assumed that might be possible - realizing that often times, Kentucky's Congressional Delegation may have been able send defense dollars our way, just as Sen. McConnell facilitated so many funds for this area over the years. I found it valuable. - EW 2017-03-23 06:03:29 | Comments | Printable version
