Grant hearing well attended, resolution 2016-05 approved

There was strong community support with overflow crowd in support in attendance for Adair County School District's application for $500,000. Community Development Block grant application for center, which will be funded by several sources. Council unanimously supports Mayor Hardwick's recommendation to back the project.

Columbia's City Council meeting room was filled to overflowing with representatives from local government and education supporting the Adair School District application for a Community Development Block Grant (CBGD) to fund a new Community Learning Central/Central Office Building.

The proposed learning center would serve students in the Adair School District during the day and, through Somerset Community College, offer evening education for adults.

GLASGOW, KY (Mon 24 Oct 2016) - In regards to the body found off the shoulder of the Louie B Nunn Parkway at the 8 mile marker in Barren County on August 15, 2011, the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green has received information from the Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville advising that the body has been identified through DNA evidence.

Sealed Bids being accepted for Main Pavilion at the Fairgrounds

The Adair County Fair Association/Jaycees will accept sealed bids for the sale of the main pavilion at the Fairgrounds located at 413 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY 42728 up until Monday, November 7 at 4:00 p.m. Bids may be mailed to Adair County Fair Association, P.O. Box 401, Columbia, KY 42728. Bids will be opened at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Please include with your bid a copy of liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000. Any bid not signed or with no proof of insurance will be disqualified. The winning bidder will be notified upon award of bid and deconstruction may begin immediately. All removal must be completed by December 31, 2016. The pavilion was built approximately 6 years ago it is a steel structure with aluminum encasing and a metal roof. An enclosed meeting room which has drywall, a drop ceiling, air/heat unit, cabinets, two bathrooms and maintenance room is included in the bid. The dimensions of the building are 50' X 125'. All ACES families are invited to attend this fun, family event for reading rooms, games and crafts and a student safety program. Students are encouraged to bring a gently used book to exchange with others and can also dress in their favorite storybook character. The ACES Choir will be performing and the Storybook Pumpkins will be on display in the school media center. Along with their book bags, paper, and pencils, Adair County Elementary students are bringing pumpkins to school this week as part of a school-wide project spearheaded by librarian Lana Glasgow. The goal is for students to work together with their parents and siblings to decorate a pumpkin as a favorite book character.

Two CU students killed in Saturday night car accident

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Two Campbellsville University students were killed and one injured in a one-car accident Saturday night, October 22. All three were taking classes at the Campbellsville University Louisville Education Center.

The students, all of whom were from India, were studying for their master's degrees at the Louisville Center. The accident happened at 10:15pmET, on North Bend Road near River Road in Hebron, KY.

LWC Volleyball hosts Asbury in Dig Pink Match

The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team plays host to Asbury (KY) Tuesday night, October 25, 2016 at 6:30pmCT in its annual Dig Pink match, at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders (23-1) are joining with the Side-Out Foundation and their Dig Pink Rally to raise funds for breast cancer research and show support to those affected by the disease. Lindsey Wilson will wear pink uniforms, and all proceeds from Tuesday's match as well as donations will be given to the Side-Out Foundation.

Board members refinance loans to save $200,000
After the refinancing of some outstanding loans, Campbellsville Independent Schools now has nearly $3.6 million in bonding capacity for future construction.

At the regular Campbellsville Board of Education meeting on Monday, Oct. 17, Board members discussed refinancing some current loans to receive a lower interest rate.

Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS)

Campbellsville Middle School students participating in the Campbellsville University leadership program portrayed ghosts on Sunday, October 23, 2016, for a tour of Brookside Cemetery.Students dressed as the ghosts of historic people who lived in the 18th and 19th centuries in Taylor County and are buried at Brookside.

Proceeds from admission to the tour will go toward cemetery upkeep costs and the Hiestand House/Taylor County Museum.

CMS students participating in the CU leadership program include eighth-graders Abi Wiedewitsch, Arren Hash, Ana Clara Moura, Zaquan Cowan, Kameron Smith, Hassan Alabusalim, Taylor Knight, Jackson Antle, Clark Kidwell, John Orberson, Kenzi Forbis and Tristin Faulkner.

FRANKFORT, KY (24 Oct 2016) - The U.S. Dept. of Labor has announced over $50.5 million in grant awards to 37 states to help expand apprenticeship opportunities across the U.S. - including $896,600 for Kentucky.

The proposal calls for a workforce pipeline to be created in Kentucky, increasing the number of Registered Apprentices by 1,300 individuals, including women, minorities, 16-24 year-olds, individuals age 45+ or older, veterans, and people with disabilities.
