In South Central Kentucky, the defeat for Wet forces ended a skein of wins for Wet voters who had won decisive votes in Russell, Adair, Cumberland, and most recently Metcalfe Counties.

While job training and technical skills are rightfully lauded for the practical benefits they beget, the district continues to foster creativity and artistic expression in its students.

Wayne Baxter: Hopes Rowe Farms spider not big as might seem

Comments re photo 68152 Giant spider web greets Rowe Farm staff By Wayne Baxter writes:
Since we can't see anything the web is attached to, it's hard to tell how big it is. If it were attached to the building shown, it would be probably 20 ft in diameter and the mash sections toward its center would bigger than the ends of the 2x4's shown. Unless Mr. Rowe says otherwise, I am guessing he was about 2-3 ft from the web and the tractor is 20-30 feet in the background. That's a trick fishermen use to make their catch look bigger. I hope we don't have spiders big enough to eat something caught in a trap that size. - Wayne Baxter
Thanks, Mr. Baxter - Gee, that's an interesting hypothesis. Knowing Mr. Fred Rowe, and how busy he is just thinking, observing and farming, I'd think that if the perspective is as you believe, it would merely be a happenstance. Don't want to be fearmongering, but until I know otherwise, I plan to give that spider ground. Getting eaten by a giant spider is no way to enter the after life. I'll try to remember to call our country agent, a man well versed in this matters. - EW

Marsha Walker: High praise for home water filter system

Marsha Walker writes:
We installed a water filter system at our kitchen sink many years ago. The water filter is under the sink; the dispenser on top. Clean water is used in cooking and makes better tea and coffee. It is a Sears model with two filters for different contaminants. They are replaced about twice a year. The icemaker has a small filter.

We started using filters when we received letters telling us what was in our water. Water bottles can be washed and refilled as needed for carry-outs. I do not buy bottled water (to save money and help the environment). --Marsha Walker
