State property tax rate unchanged for 2015

Rate is 12.2 cents per $100 assessed value; same since 2008

FRANKFORT, KY- (July 1, 2015) The Kentucky Department of Revenue has set the 2015 State Real Property Tax Rate at 12.2 cents per $100 of assessed value. Kentucky Revised Statute 132.020 requires the Department of Revenue to set the real property rate no later than July 1 of each year. This rate is based on the revenue generated from the increase in taxable real property assessments from 2014 to 2015. If the revenue increase is more than 4 percent after the exclusion of new property added to the tax roll during 2015, then the prior year rate must be reduced. Because the assessment increase for 2015 is estimated at 2.78 percent, the state rate will remain the same as the 2014 rate, 12.2 cents per $100 of assessed value.

All of the revenue generated from the state property tax rate will go into the state's General Fund.

Doug McCammish: Accurate diagnosis at WRH saved his life, too

Doug McCammish writes:
I agree with Richard Lee and have had a similar experience with WRH. As some know, I visited the Emergency Room one Saturday morning looking for help for a "minor" problem, but was diagnosed accurately with a much more serious problem and whisked away to UK for surgery.

I'm told that, untreated, I would probably have fallen asleep and not awakened.

I could not have asked for better, more efficient, and more prompt care by the nurses, doctor, and pharmacist on duty. Going an extra 25 miles for emergency help may not seem bad unless you've been there. --Doug McCammish

Carol Perkins: Celebrity sighting leads to booking

Joe, the star from Columbia, KY, on "Bachelorette" spotted at Barren River Lodge, has been booked for a guest appearance and even greater stardom on an upcoming "Susan & Carol Unscripted" show.
Next earlier Carol Perkins: Watermelon and summer

By Carol Perkins

If there is a celebrity sighting, I will be nearby. A recent one, however, left me confused and it was Guy's fault. We had gone to Barren River Lodge for Father's Day lunch (along with most of Barren County) and because there were only two of us, we were seated rather quickly. While we were waiting, I glanced at the first table in direct line with the checkout and at the end of that table, I saw someone who looked familiar.

I starred subtly, glancing off when he glanced my way, and finally leaned toward Guy and said, "Look at the guy sitting at the end of that table." I used my head to indicate direction but he didn't catch on to my attempt to be undercover. "What table?"

Mike Watson: John Field House was built in 1812

The John Field House, one of the iconic architectural sites in Columbia and Adair County . . . It was once the law office of John Marshall Clemens, and was where, after Clemen's marriage to Jane Lampton, the couple lived for a time. John Field served as the first Adair County jailer, the first Columbia post master, operated various businesses and farms, invested widely, and was on the early 1800s town council. - Mike Watson

Once a show-place, it will be once again as renovations have commenced. The old add-on wooden structure in the rear has been cleared away. Progress coming to a grand house.

Cloverport Estates neighbors unite to save 206 Lost Dog

Little white dog was wandering from Haven Hill Cemetery to Cloverport Estates, dodging busy, fast moving traffic. Cloverport neighbors, took the lost pet into their hearts, and were able to lure it into a cage, gain a bit of its confidence, and, with John Shelley III's re-hydration and nutrition program, put it on its way back to health - and hopefully, a reunion with its family. Already, it's worked it's way into the collective Cloverport foster family, and may be, today, the luckiest dog in the world.
