GBC combines dedication and memorial

By: Mike Bennett

Since the reopening of Gradyville Baptist Church on July 1, 2012, the congregation and community has been blessed with the hearing of church bells at the beginning of each service. That is until last fall when the roof and steeple renovations began.

At the beginning of each service, Bro. Jackie Dudley would ring the church bell. He was a very dedicated member of GBC. He was very active in the reopening and restoration of the church. However, before the new steeple could be placed, Bro. Jackie went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 22, 2014.

Who is That Dog? The Christmas Dog?

Celia Downey writes

Ed, re the post about the adoption of Max the dog from the Animal Shelter; isn’t that Columbia’s "Christmas Dog"? If so, WOW, he gets around if that it is him and I’m pretty sure it is. Max is sort of like an Ambassador for the Animal Shelter and is good advertisement. Maybe he can ride the Animal Shelter Float in our Christmas Parade. - Celia

Thanks Celia - Not sure if it's the same Max, but if it is, he came from a wonderful home, wonderful people. They almost guaranteed that he would be adopted quickly. If it is that Max, he's leading a good life, just doesn't like cats. Agreed. I'd nominate him for Grand Marshal of the Parade, with the new miracle management of Green River Animal Shelter. The float would need room for Max and his entourage, the new GRAS director, the CJE and the Magisterial Team overlooking the facility. They are doing so much right now. - EW

Picture of Bleep needs to be extracted from Peg's brain

Sandi Wills idea is on a lot of people's minds. It is being considered around a lot of breakfasts this morning! Maybe at least one minister will use Peg's Story this morning as a subtext for her/his sermon. There's a moral in it somewhere - for sure a limerick.

Peg, that is the most hilarious story yet! Where is the picture? Love it! - Sandi Wills
Sandi: This is a big worry for Linda & me, too. Maybe someone knows how to re-create the picture in Peg Schaeffer's mind by translating brain waves into digital photography. Where, oh where is Stephen Hawking when we need him. Even if we can't do that, sure there is an artist who can draw a picture of a baboon in a tree with Peg Schaeffer's wallet, taking out a bill at a time and eating it!

Happy Tail: What the Bleep?! - A baboon

"...I don’t have any photos of Bleep but I still have the picture of him up in the pine tree looking through my wallet and eating my money..."

By Peg Schaeffer

We have had quite a variety of animals on the farm over the years. In addition to the dogs, cats, and horses we’ve also had goats and a pig. The strangest member of the menagerie was a monkey named Bleep.

Bleep was a baboon. My mother used to work at Sears & Roebuck with a man named Elmer Rose. Elmer always had a variety of exotic animals at his place. So when my nephew, Bruce, heard about the monkey he bought it from Elmer. He kept Bleep in a wire cage in the backyard. Bleep managed to escape from the cage and that was the summer to go down in the history books.
