Josh Brockman: Will miss Joe Collins' knowledge of county

Josh Brockman writes:
I would just like to thank Joe for his years of service to the citizens of Adair County. It has been over 13 years now that have had Joe on the other end of the radio and will miss hearing him greatly. His knowledge of the county and city road system is extensive. I will be seeing you around buddy and I hope you find time to relax but if I know you those wheels will keep rolling. Thank you for what you do and thank you to all the dispatchers your work goes to often unnoticed . --Josh Brockman

Letter from Joe Collins on retirement

Pay scale big factor in loss of this experienced dispatcher at Adair 911

By Joe Collins

Today is a bittersweet day for me. Today is my last day at the Adair County 911 at 17:00 hrs today I will be done, with 18 years in the chair here. I love it here but can't make any money doing this job.

So I've got to move on; I want to thank all the people who have put their trust in me and all that have been a part of my life these 18 years. I know I have saved some lives and made a world of friends.

And I wish the new people who are coming to be in this chair the best because there's a lot more to it than the people know, but I still loved doing it.

Thank you Adair County for your support, again, thank you. - Joe Collins

Alan Reed, superintendent of Adair County Public Schools is excited about where his district is going educationally and he gives a lot of credit to the high school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) wing.

Reed tells visitors to the district's website that students will have more choices and opportunities than ever before with the opening of a new satellite technology campus of Lake Cumberland Area Technology Center (LCATC) and 39 career paths leading to industry certifications in health care occupations and welding/metal fabrication.

The 2014-15 school year marked the first for the satellite program and has brought about a heightened awareness of how valuable CTE programs can be to students and the community.

Poetry by Robert Stone: Ideas we release

Ideas we release
- a sonnet for the birthday of Linda Regula
Where do new characters develop lives
before great storytellers set them free?
In myth and mystery the hero thrives
but must await the singer of will be.

In tales and narratives the humble stay
unknown unless by chance fate sets apart.
In math and mastery the proud hold sway
but blind until redeemed by broken heart.

In truth and tragedy the common weep
unable to decide which hope to seize.
In faith and fantasy the daring sleep
but lightly while expecting what will please.

Most likely all ideas we release
beyond our first defining will increase.
- Robert Stone, 11 May 2015
