The ADAIR Band: Not just talented, a great work ethic, too

By Roger D Smith DMD

I am very proud of our very talented band and their great victory, but I was somewhat surprised at the lack of comments hailing their talents. I can't carry a tune in a big bucket, but I do admire those who can.

The work these young people put in to be the very best is unbelievable. I admire not only their talent but their great work ethic. The tradition continues and we all should be very proud of them.

Thanks again for being the great representatives of our county that you have shown yourselves to be. - ROGER D SMITH, DMD

Proclamation, National Home Health Care Month

Whereas, home care services provide high quality and compassionate health care services to those in need, especially at times of community or personal health care crisis,

Whereas, home care is the most preferred method of health care delivery among disabled, elderly and chronically ill individuals eager to live independently in their own homes as long as they possibly can; and

Whereas, home care services allow families to stay together, and provide for greater health, dignity and comfort in our communities; and

Whereas, home care in the United States is a growing alternative to hospitalization or other institution-based forms of health care for acute, chronic and terminal illnesses, providing care to millions of Americans each year; and

Whereas, thousands of everyday heroes such as home care nurses, therapists and aides work tirelessly to provide professional health care and support to millions of Americans in need of quality health services; and

Whereas, these dedicated home care professionals and volunteers form a support network that continues to play a vital role in health care delivery for our nation's disabled, infirm and aging population; and

Whereas, Amedisys Home Health Care, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, and thousands of home care and hospices agencies across the United States have declared the month of November as National Home Care Month and are calling on all Americans to observe these occasions with appropriate ceremonies and activities;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that I, Ann Melton, Adair County Judge Executive, do hereby proclaim November 2014 as National Home Care Month in Adair County , KY and encourage the support and participation of all citizens in learning more about the home care and hospice concepts of care for the elderly, disabled, and infirm.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused this seal to be affixed.

- Ann Melton, Adair County Judge Executive, Adair County, KY.

Thanks. A good question. While almost every site in Adair County has a Street & Number designation - even for one bridge, over 100 cemeteries, and many barns - could find the information you want. Will make a diligent search, however. We ought to be able to hand that information to you with no hesitation. - CM

Send Events TODAY for Next Wed-Sun, 19-22 Nov 2014

Send by Tuesday, midnight, for posts for coming weekend

To get an Event posted for next weekend, send it now for best results. A new deadline is in effect - Tuesdays, midnight for the full package of news/events calendar/event listing on the CM front page. Events receives not received by the deadline may be posted, but will not carry the same priority as those received on time and likely will not make the "Float down the front Page."

Paid banners will still be available for those Events which don't make the deadline, and for those would want to multiply the effect of the standard CM Events package.

With snow days now happening, a reminder that Events listed in our calendar can be easily modified for cancellations, changes in schedules, delays or postponements, at no cost if the event is already listed in CM Events. Otherwise there is a charge. We make it easy to post. If you are new to the system, just call 270-250-2730 and let us help you get started. If your email submission is not posted within 2 business hours, let us know by calling. A second email only complicates. Often only one bit of information is needed to complete a post - handled most easily with a call. We're waiting to help.

Comment: Only bright spot in Double Food Bucks is help for small farmers

Personal Commentary

Jon Halsey writes:
When 15% of the total population (legal and illegal) qualify for poverty assistance there must be a better way to spend $100 million non-existent dollars that would provide a much better outcome than programs designed to insure that beneficiaries stay wards of the Government and future generations remain deep in debt. The only bright spot I see in this program is that small farmers finally get some benefit.

Without spending any additional money, the SNAP program might consider reining in what the cards can be used for. There is always a lot of talk immediately following some intrepid reporters story regarding how the cards are used and abused but changes never seem to happen or to be enforced if they do occur.
