Two people have correctly identified the 'Fabulous View' mystery photo. : Blockquote> Mike Keltner gave the road as Creek Bend Drive
The name of the road is Creek Bend Drive, I believe that the branch has no official name. The branch begins in two streams starting at State Park Road, and behind Allen Moore and Sons building. The two streams come together just before crossing Creek Bend Drive before terminating in Russell Creek. Mike Keltner

Ben Arnold gives inside on idea for Columbia's Big Pencil

Ben Arnold writes:
Ed, you ask about the birth of the pencil idea. Knowing that write-in campaigns are difficult without a name on the ballot. Write-in suggests pencils and I ordered small ones with this message, then realized I didn't have time to distribute them. Then I thought, make it so large to not be missed from the road! I took Bobby Morrison to see some large columns that Red Nixon had taken from Dr Giles' house and stored in my warehouse.

Bobby, our chief engineer, said too heavy, too dangerous, can we do one column. Wanting it tall, I continued to search. On the same day, Jeff Scott and Barry Stotts suggested cardboard tubes for concrete forms.

After a lot of searching, I found large ones in Louisville, a piece of metal roof, and some insulation foam and Marg went paint shopping. As Edison said, it was 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, mostly from Bobby and Dale Morrison.

Barry Stotts just appeared with his trailer truck and large backhoe and then Joe Lynn Barbee closed the critical step with his large crane just at the right time. They just got it done. - BEN

(Ad) Game our system on CM Classifieds - get a bonus

The BIG GAME is on in CM Classifieds. Some advertisers have learned to "game the system" with low cost paid Classifieds, which get FRONT PAGE coverage until the next paid classified is posted. Cost is incredibly low.

In this case, specifically, we're happy to have everyone game the system. There's no guarantee how long your ad will stay as the featured classified. Sometimes it's an hour or less, sometimes it's 36 hours. Either way, it's a delightful bonus. And it works for any paid advertisements including: Revival and Reunion ads, Autos, Real Estate & Rentals, Automotive, Rewards Ads. So, on classifieds, go ahead and game the system. Need help posting, call 270-250-2730 For costs and for instructions to email ColumbiaMagazine.com, click to RATES & TERMS/a>

The BIG pencil: What's the future for it unusual road art?

Next time Nora Ephron's Michael is re-written, maybe they will have the angel Michael visit the Big Pencil. in COLUMBIA, KY. Reckon?
About: The Giant Pencil - Maybe most unusual political ad in Kentucky

After the election, what will become of the giant 54' pencil Dr. Ben Arnold set up at the intersection of Burkesvillle Road and the Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass?

It' already gotten a ton of positive media attention, and Larry Smith at WAVE 92.7 FM is wondering what will be done with it after the election is over. Comments are welcome here, but Larry Smith said he'd welcome calls today with suggestions to let Dr. Arnold know what the people think he should do with the unusual road art.

Of course your comments are welcome here - all on the record, for posting if we choose. And, of course, it's Dr. Arnold's decision on the future of Columbia, KY's giant pencil, but, since it was Larry's idea, we hope you give him a call at 270-384-7979 this morning. For CM - just let us know if you spot or hear a story on any other media outlet Columbia/Adair County.
