Homer Forest Lands, 72, Adair County, KY (1942-2014)

He was born in Louisville, KY, and was a resident of Chicago, IL, at the time of his death. He grew up in the big house on the corner of Fairground & Wain Streets, in Columbia, KY with his sister Rebecca, and foster parents, the late Ted & Emma Richards, and attended public school here, and is remembered fondly by many classmates. He had worked as a lineman at the Nabisco Plant in Chicago, IL.

FRANKFORT, KY - The dog days of summer settled over Kentucky in the last week, bringing the hottest temperatures of the year. The summer heat in July and August make fishing reservoirs a tough prospect.

Even bluegill get grumpy in the larger lakes at this time of year, much less largemouth bass. "We are getting to the time of year of the maximum production for baitfish, such as shad, in our reservoirs," said Ryan Oster, fisheries program coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Data Dimensions to bring 100 new jobs to Mt. Sterling, KY

Insurance data processing company serves many Fortune 500 companies

FRANKFORT, KY. - Governor Steve Beshear today announced Data Dimensions Corporation plans to open a data processing center in Mt. Sterling.

Data Dimensions, a document management company, expects to create 100 new jobs and invest $3.2 million into the project.

Whitehurst Diaries: Better Beetle Buster protects blackberry crop

Cute as these leaf-eating scarabs are, Phyllaga are at least a minor plague at blackberry time. Though Andrew Zimmern feasts on roasted June Bugs (See Youtube: June Bugs Three Ways) occasionally, there's no place for them in the blackberry patch; and with no great demand by today's nine year old boys to tether June Bugs with sewing thread and make a flying toy of them, the Whitehursts take great glee and sweet endings for the creatures, who are now hastened to Junebug heaven with Jim Whitehurst latest contraption, the wildly successful Better Beetle Buster, which Sharon Whitehurst shares with the world in today's Internet Reveal - CM

FRANKFORT, KY (July 23, 2014) Governor Steve Beshear today announced award of a contract for more of the improvements needed for bringing a portion of the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway up to interstate highway standards and eventual designation as Interstate 69.

The project involves reconstruction of the parkway's KY 56 interchange near Sebree, in Webster County. Dumey Contracting was awarded the contract on a low bid of $10 million. The project has a completion date of October 1, 2015.
