What a difference a week makes in Kentucky weather. This is the view from the Sheriff's vehicle as he responded to calls during the ice and snow storms last week. We are looking at a weekend of rain but temperatures are nowhere near freezing, so no ice in the next few days.

CU Athletics to broadcast from new Mass Communication Center

By Jordan Alves

Campbellsville, KY - The familiar voices of Jim Freeman and Matt Payton will be on the radio air waves Friday afternoon as Campbellsville University Football travels to the University of Pikeville for the second game of the season. To the listeners around the world, it will sound just like any game, but to the broadcast duo entering their 8th year together on the CU Sports Network it'll have a different feel.

Freeman enters his 15th year broadcasting Tiger football, while Payton joined him in 2013. The two have called 71 games together including Campbellsville's run to consecutive NAIA Playoff appearances and the last two Mid-South Conference Championships in 2014 and 2015, and the NCCAA Victory Bowl Championship in 2017.

During those runs, Freeman, Payton and long-time statistician Kevin Burkhead -- who has kept stats for the Tigers for 342 straight games - were all at the stadium bringing the game to radios, smart phones, and computers across the world. In a COVID-19 pandemic year, that is changing this season as the duo will be housed in the newest addition of Campbellsville University's academic buildings, the new Mass Communication Center.

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 2/25/2021

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

For the district, we added fewer cases today than last Thursday, so our 7-day average incidence rate went down slightly. However, for a few of our counties, the incidence rate went up. This resulted in our now only having 3 counties in the "orange-critical" range of community-spread: Casey, Pulaski, and Wayne and 7 counties in the "red-critical" range of community-spread: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Russell, and Taylor.

The Governor announced some more vaccine sites in our district. Tomorrow, we will confirm some information and then add them to our "Vaccination Sites" section on the webpage.

Please, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding touching our faces.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 5.67%.

Six of the new locations are regional sites; three are federally qualified health centers; 10 are Walmart stores; 10 are Kroger stores; and 90 are Walgreens stores. New locations will be added to the 'Where Can I Get Vaccinated?' map on the vaccine.ky.gov website, also found here: https://govstatus.egov.com/ky-covid-vaccine.

Carol Perkins: Getting a second opinion

Previous Column: Snow brings memories of childhood

By Carol Perkins

"Your phone's been dinging." Guy stood in the bedroom doorway holding my cell phone. I was not fully awake. "I think it's Connie."

She would never call this early. I assumed it was a "butt" dial (as it's called) or a "sleeping pill" dial, but I had to be sure. Rather than saying, "Hello," she said, "Did you call me?" Her tone was one of panic.

"No, you're the one who called me!" I replied. "What's wrong?"

"I didn't call you. You called me." This went back and forth.
