Gaynor's put-back sends LWC Men's Basketball to 81-78 win By Chris Wells Colen Gaynor's put-back three-point play with 0.6 seconds left in regulation proved to be the difference as the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team beat visiting Dalton State (GA) 81-78 today at Biggers Sports Center. Gaynor narrowly missed a double-double with a career-high 26 points and nine rebounds in the win. The put-back erased the Roadrunners' comeback attempt and sent the Blue Raiders (3-2) to their second straight win. Dalton State (0-1) overcame a four-point deficit in the final minute with back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 78-78 with 23 seconds. Gaynor -- holding for the final shot of regulation -- drove to the basket and kicked the ball out to Payton Cundiff on the baseline with four seconds remaining on the clock. Cundiff's shot was just short but Gaynor cleaned up the miss and was fouled to give the Blue Raiders the lead for good. Governor: Vaccines on the way, Kentuckians must stay strong By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - On Saturday, Gov. Andy Beshear urged Kentuckians to strengthen their resolve in the fight against COVID-19, with the knowledge that help is on the way. "I know we're tired. I know many of us are disappointed we couldn't celebrate Thanksgiving or enjoy Black Friday shopping the way we usually do. But I promise you: we have come so far and we are almost there. Hang on, Team Kentucky," the Governor said. Gov. Beshear reminded Kentuckians to shop safely, purchasing gifts online when possible and avoiding crowded stores. If families do need to shop in person, he encouraged them to keep their time inside stores to a minimum and use curbside pickup whenever possible. "Though we have to do it differently, please support our small businesses this weekend and holiday season," said Gov. Beshear. "Shopping small supports some of our local businesses that have suffered the most economically as we've battled COVID-19. Let's show them we have their backs." Letter: Black cake and chicken and nut salad Michael Watson writes: Linda, I haven't searched for the recipes, but if memory serves, Black Cake was a variation on what we call a Jam Cake or, where my dear wife grew up, in Bracken County, Blackberry Cake. And the chicken and nut salad, I would hazard, was a chicken salad with nuts such as pecans--or perhaps in our part of the world in 1910, hickory nuts. --MikeComments re: Epicurean Kentuckian: Food items like old days 2020-11-28 14:28:42 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Miss August: Kentucky Living 2021 Calendar In which Robert describes his elation at finding his favorite photo featured in the 2021 Kentucky Living calendar. We say a well-deserved congratulations to Robert, and thanks again for sharing this beautiful image with Columbia Magazine readers first. --Pen By Robert Ellis A large white envelope arrived in the mail at my home on Black Friday. Other than the monthly magazine Kentucky Living sends out to all its RECC customers I never get any enveloped mail from them. Walking to the house and suddenly remembering I entered their photo contest back in March, I was puzzled as to why I would be getting this envelope. None of the photos I submitted for the competition were selected, so this was becoming somewhat of a mystery. So... I peeked through the back of the envelope and could see it was a calendar and decided this must be a "gratuitous" gift, as a way of thanks for entering the contest. However, thumbing through the months in the calendar I suddenly had one of those WHOA Nellie moments...there she was, Number 784 staring back at me! Wow...what an honor! Of all my photos ever taken, this is my favorite, now she'll be gracing many more homes in Kentucky. Special thanks to Billy Rowe Farms in Adair County, Kentucky Living Magazine for this sneaky "Big" surprise and lastly to Columbia Magazine for posting the original image and story: 2021 Calendars can be purchased directly from the Kentucky Living website. 2020-11-28 09:07:54 | Comments | Printable version
