For more than 65 days, Kentucky House Majority Floor Leader John "Bam" Carney has battled a severe case of pancreatitis and infection in the intensive care unit at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

His brother Mark Carney's posts on social media about the lawmaker's health crisis have been both wrenching and hopeful in the time that Carney, R-Campbellsville, has been hospitalized since Dec. 23. The lawmaker is talking, drinking fluids for the first time in more than two months and regaining strength while still fighting infection, Mark Carney has said.

KSP ask motorists to share the road

By Sergeant Jason Morris

Frankfort, KY - The KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Division announced the start of a two-week statewide enforcement blitz targeting aggressive driving behaviors.

"Many preventable crashes result from unsafe driving behavior such as speeding, distracted driving and following too close. Often times, we see this on our highways when motorists and commercial vehicle drivers struggle to share the road," says Sergeant Jason Morris.

For this reason, KSP is kicking off the Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks (TACT) Blitz, March 1, 2020 which will target drivers (both passenger car and commercial vehicle) who exhibit aggressive behaviors such as improper lanes changes, speeding, following too closely, not leaving enough space to pass and failure to yield the right-of-way.

Cumberland Co. farmers sought for Cooperative Dove Field Program

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife

Frankfort, KY - Farmers can earn extra money and support Kentucky's hunting heritage by participating in the Cooperative Dove Field Program offered by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The program leases privately owned and managed fields for public dove hunting in the fall. Enrollment is open through March 10, 2020.

"This creative program gives our farmers an additional income opportunity, and enables a safe and successful hunting season for many Kentucky families in the fall," said Gov. Andy Beshear.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is interested in reaching agreements with property owners who have acreage in underserved areas that have significant numbers of dove hunters. In the western part of the state, this includes Caldwell, Calloway, Christian, Daviess, Fulton, Grayson, Hardin, Hart, Hickman, LaRue, Logan, Lyon, Simpson, Todd and Trigg counties. Boyle, Cumberland, Laurel, Lincoln, Pulaski and Wayne counties are areas of interest in southcentral Kentucky.

By Holly Jo Evans

Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Lewis Brogdon, visiting professor of Religious and Black Church Studies at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky and chair of Simmons College's Religious Studies Department, talked about group temptations as he kicked off the Black History Month celebration at Campbellsville University on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Ransdell Chapel.

Brogdon read a passage of scripture from Matthew 6, the "model prayer." He pointed out a specific phrase in the passage that says, "lead us not into temptation."

He said, "When we talk about temptation it's always personal," from an individual standpoint, but the words in the scripture say, "lead US not into temptation."

Carol Perkins: The Butter Bean Episode

Previous Column: Yo-Yo triggers fond memories

By Carol Perkins

Nobody enjoys food the way Guy (my husband) does. When working, he doesn't have to look at the clock to know it is time to find a place to eat. He has traveled for his work all our married life, so he knows the best places in each city from here to Johnson City to Birmingham to Memphis. His favorite place is in Huntsville at a place called "Rose's." He even brought home a t-shirt.

He values mealtime. Because he eats out so much, I cook more often than I want. If I had my way, I'd never cook another meal, but being the good wife that I am and knowing how much eating means to him, I try to accommodate. After all, he has had an abundance of accommodating to do since 1967.

All of this brings me to what I am calling "The Butter Bean Episode," starring Guy Perkins.

AtCorr to create 31 jobs with Glasgow expansion

By Crystal Staley/Jack Mazurak

Frankfort, KY - AtCorr Packaging Products, LLC, a manufacturer of corrugated shipping products, intends to create 31 full-time jobs in Barren County with an investment of more than $780,000. The announcement adds to a wave of recent job creation in Central Kentucky and across the commonwealth.

"Today has been an incredible day of job creation across the state, and the growth of AtCorr Packaging Products continues that trend," Gov. Andy Beshear said. "The company's decision to remain in Kentucky as it plans to more than triple its employment base is a reminder that our workforce is second to none."

AtCorr leaders expect to relocate into a 174,000-square-foot space in an existing building owned by the company at 1320 W. Main St. The investment, which comes in response to significant growth in recent years, also will cover the cost of new equipment, work stations and conveyor lines. Strong 2nd half pushes LWC women's basketball to win

By Christopher Coombs

Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team overcame a 14 point first-quarter deficit to defeat Cumberlands (Ky.) 76-64 on the road. With the win, the Blue Raiders finish their regular season campaign with a 25-5 overall record and a 13-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference.

Lindsey Wilson opened the contest with sloppy play as they committed 11 turnovers in the first half but turned things around in the second half to only turn the ball over three more times. The Blue Raiders shot 41.4 percent from the floor while the Patriots (19-10, 6-9 MSC) managed a 39.1 mark. Cumberlands attacked the glass, managing a 35-26 rebounding advantage but a 26-16 points off turnovers advantage in favor of LWC helped guide the Blue Raiders to victory.

Reagan Turner led the Blue Raiders with 29 points going a perfect 9-of-9 at the charity stripe. DeAsia Outlaw had 14 points and six rebounds as Jynea Harris managed 12 points and Maleigha Oldham added 10.
