LWC Baseball gears up for weekend home series

By Brady Budke

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team returns home to Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY, this Saturday & Sunday to face the College of the Ozarks (MO) in a three-game series. On Saturday, the matchup between both squads will be a doubleheader beginning at 1pmCT. Sunday will feature just one game that will begin at NoonCT.

The Blue Raiders (4-10) fell twice but stole a game from Taylor (IN) last Saturday at Egnew Park. LWC also welcomed Miami-Hamilton (OH) to Columbia last Sunday, splitting a doubleheader with the Harriers to conclude a full weekend of play.

Dillan Saunders is hitting .395 from the plate this season and leads Lindsey Wilson with 11 RBI's. Between the five home games this past weekend, Saunders rounded up nine hits, five RBI's, two doubles, and a home run.

Saunders plate presence is joined in company by the strong trio of Derek Zavala, Tyler Maskill, and Seth Price. Zavala has put together team-highs of 21 hits, 15 stolen bags, and a .412 batting average. Price has sent out 14 hits and notched eight RBI's while leading the way with seven doubles. Maskill has garnered up 13 hits, three doubles, four RBI's and seven stolen bases in the 2020 campaign.

Chandler Harnage enters as a top threat from the mound for Lindsey Wilson. The senior has pitched a team-high 25-1/3 innings this season while punching out 17 batters from the plate. Cade Duncan has rolled out a fast start to his freshman season from the bump, pitching 11-2/3 innings while striking out 12 batters and holding on to three saves this year.

The College of the Ozarks (6-8) dropped three games and won one in its last series against Waldorf (Iowa) this past weekend.

Despite sitting just below the .500 mark to open the 2020 campaign, the Bobcats have lost costly close games that have proven to influence the win/loss record. The Ozarks have fallen short in six games this season by three runs or less and have pushed out 49 runs while allowing just 54 in return.

Kyle Abrahamson & Lincoln Rasmussen each lead the Bobcats with 11 hits, while Ryan Daggs & Kyler Giefer have each tallied out seven RBI's to ride on top. Daggs has launched out three home runs while Max Pulley has sent out two to conduct the Ozarks power ball hitting.

The Bobcats use a variety of pitchers to guide play from the bump. Six different pitchers have rolled out double-digit innings pitched this season, and four have earned double-digit strikeouts. Rhett Hill has thrown 15-2/3 innings and accumulated a 1.72 ERA on a team-high 16 strikeouts. Along with his plate presence, Daggs has corralled a 1.38 ERA in 13 innings pitched while notching 15 K's.

Live video & live stats will be available all weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT, while Sunday's single game is slated for a noon CT first pitch.
