Rep. Bam Carney's recovery making positive strides

Update February 25, 2020 from Bam's brother, Mark Carney, shared with ColumbiaMagazine.com readers by Bro. John Chowning:

"Today is day 65 for Bam in the same bed and the same ICU room at Norton's Hospital, but it has been a glorious day for sure. Bam passed a swallowing test this morning and as a result of that has been able to take a drink of water for the first time in 65 days!! He is also able to have apple juice - which he has already - and concentrated orange juice as well as ice chips. I can only imagine how that first drink of water tasted.

"He also got the chest tube taken out this morning. The chest tube had been in for two weeks draining fluid from around the lungs. Perhaps some of the best news of the day came from the kidney doctor. He had the news of no dialysis for today, which is the third day in a row of no dialysis.

Colonel conspiracy

By Rick Childress, Lexington Herald-Leader

A nonprofit made up of previously named Kentucky Colonels is suing a "shadow group" that allegedly is using its trademarked name to make money and confuse the public.

"They're treading off our historic trademark to solicit funds and we don't know where those funds are going," said Sherry Crose, executive director of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, a government-chartered nonprofit association of about 30,000 colonels which has awarded millions in grants and scholarships.

A group called Kentucky Colonels International and its founder David Wright was using the Kentucky Colonels trademarked name to create a registry of colonels if they paid to join, a federal lawsuit filed Thursday stated.
