New Master of Divinity Program at Campbellsville University By Matthew Taylor Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University is offering a new Master of Divinity online program that is designed "to prepare God-called men and women for a lifetime of ministry," according to Dr. Terry Wilder, director of the program. Although the program is fully online at present, future plans include offering the M.Div. in seat on the university's main campus and at her regional centers in Harrodsburg and Louisville. The program began in January, and six students are currently enrolled. "I think it's a great program, and as it grows, I would like to encourage other people serving in ministry to take a look at it," Jasmine Barnett, M.Div. student, said. Barnett is director of church outreach and associate campus minister at Campbellsville University. Expanded office expected to open this spring, residents encouraged to gather required documents now By Naitore Djigbenou Frankfort, KY - Kentuckians now have one more option to maintain U.S. air travel and military base entry thanks to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's (KYTC) expansion of REAL ID-compliant card access. The Pulaski County REAL ID regional driver's licensing office will initially offer one station to process REAL ID licenses, but will expand capacity in coming months. Pulaski County residents who have a current driver's license, permit or identification card may apply for a Kentucky's REAL ID-compliant version if they want to use a state-issued credential to meet upcoming REAL ID requirements that go into effect Oct. 1, 2020. Sleeping driver strikes Barren church Bowling Green Daily News The driver of a tractor-trailer reportedly fell asleep at the wheel early Tuesday, causing the truck to strike the front porch of a church in Barren County. LWC Campus Kitchen Transitions to the Food Recovery Network By Travis Smith Lindsey Wilson College has joined forces with the Food Recovery Network and their efforts to fight hunger and food waste. The college's initial effort to help food insecure individuals and families in Adair County was started in 2016 as the LWC Campus Kitchen. The college officially transitioned to the Food Recovery Network at Lindsey Wilson College in November of 2019. The Food Recovery Network at Lindsey Wilson College will collect food waste from the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining and Conference Center and donate it to those in need in the Adair County Community. "Food Recovery Network's more simplified model has allowed us to increase the efficiency of our work," said LWC Bonner Program Coordinator Kisha Burton. "With the Food Recovery Network at LWC, we have partnered with JOY Ministries as our Hunger-Fighting Partner. All 60+ former clients of the Campus Kitchen were encouraged to continue receiving food via this new avenue." KSP: Fatal Collision on Veterans Memorial Hwy in Marion Co. By Sgt. Jason Morris Lebanon, KY - The Kentucky State Police investigated a fatal collision on Veterans Memorial Highway this morning at 1:41 a.m. ET inside Lebanon that closed the road for several hours. Preliminary investigations indicate that 29 year-old Richard Spalding of Loretto was operating a 2011 Ford F-250 traveling south on Veterans Memorial Highway. Spalding for an unknown reason crossed into the path of a 2000 International semi being operated by 62 year-old Jeffrey Canada of Milltown, IN. Spalding's vehicle struck the semi head on, which resulted in the roadway being closed for several hours. To open their 2020 season, the Blue Raiders play three straight road contests, beginning on Jan. 31- Feb. 1 with matchups against Reinhardt (GA), who is receiving votes in the national poll. Lindsey Wilson hits the road again on Feb. 4 to battle No. 8-ranked Bryan (TN). The Blue Raiders open the home portion of their schedule against Asbury (KY) on Feb. 5 at Egnew Park. Letter: Cash Bond Ann Pearson writes: My concern over doing away with cash bond is that other places have let people out without cash bond only to have them commit worse crimes while out awaiting trial. They just turned them out on the street and worse things happened. I'm all for fair bond based on charges but no bond. Kyle Witmer speaks about peace at CU chapel service By Scarlett Birge Campbellsville, KY - Opening Campbellsville University's first chapel service of the spring semester with the theme of "Jesus Our Peace," Kyle Witmer, pastor and missionary to Thailand, said, "You are not expected to be at peace." "Peace is elusive," Witmer said. He said peace is often defined as "being without conflict. However, conflict is inevitable and "stress is very real," he said. Reading from John 16:33, he spoke of the troubles of the world and how we can trust in the Lord to help overcome our struggles. Witmer said having external peace of being in physical comfort can often lead to the belief that it is equivalent to internal peace. Applications sought for HGTV makeover show From the office of Mayor Pamela Hoots A new series is scheduled to be on HGTV entitled "Home Town Takeover." The show is to be filmed in a small town, where the six episode show is to be shown in 2021. "We are planning on making application to this renovation competition," said Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots. Hoots went on to comment that they would like the public's input into the process. Hemp bill passes KY House, 70-17 By Rebecca Hanchett, LRC Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky House voted 70-17 yesterday to expand options for hemp testing while continuing to meet federal requirements for the state's hemp program. House Bill 236 sponsor Rep. Matthew Koch, R-Paris, said the bill would allow the state to expand the number of qualified laboratories authorized to test the state's hemp crop for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a psychoactive component found in hemp and other types of cannabis. THC testing of the state's hemp crop is now handled by the University of Kentucky, which Koch said experienced a testing backlog over the past year. Fair honored at annual convention By Greg Thomas At the annual 2020 Kentucky Association of Fairs and Horse Shows annual convention the Adair County Fair was awarded the 2019 Zone 2, Division B, Most Progressive Fair Award. This award is judged in four categories: livestock entries, horse entries, food, crop, and youth entries approved for state aid, plus money spent on entries not approved for state aid. Each of the above categories are compared both as a number and percent increase or decrease from the previous year. Also considered are promptness of reports and catalog ratings. DPA petitions KY Supreme Court for Bail Reform By Cara Lane Cape Frankfort, KY - - The Department of Public Advocacy, acting on behalf of 10 named clients who are representative of hundreds of clients throughout the Commonwealth, asked the Supreme Court of Kentucky on Friday to use its authority over the Court of Justice to establish clear constitutional rules for pretrial release decisions by trial and appellate courts in the Commonwealth. With this petition, for the first time in Kentucky, the Supreme Court is being asked to decide if "money bail," the practice of conditioning someone's freedom on whether they can come up with a certain amount of cash, is constitutional. Five of the clients in the petition are currently in jail with cash bail, meaning if they only had more money, they would be free. The Department argues that this system violates the Constitutional mandates of due process and equal protection under the laws because someone's wealth cannot be a valid basis to distinguish between incarceration and freedom.
