Sitting, listening to the house I'm leaving

By Beth Lomax

Sitting and listening to the house. 35 years of stuff and memories.

Memories are going with me, but a lot of the stuff is not! As I sit here, memories have taken over. Little kids running down the hall. Em and her friends in her room laughing over school and boys. Jon and his crew watching WWF upstairs, and Jerry yelling for them to stop because the ceiling fans were shaking.

Jerry going down the hall singing “You Are My Sunshine”.

Kids yelling where’s my glove? Have you seen my dance bag?

Middle school dances, ball games, dance classes, recitals, prom, and graduation. Football on the screened in porch, weddings, joining the Marines, coming home from Afghanistan.

The grandchildren being born.

The sound of the hospital bed, the oxygen, Jerry leaving us.

Making Christmas cookies with little boys. It has been a life of ups and downs, laughter and tears, but it is now time to go. I hope the family that comes in enjoys the house.

I move on Tuesday.

Now to go blow my nose and maybe get some sleep.
