KY Selling Farmers Tax Credit (KSFTC) Program announced

By Nicole Burton/Jack Mazurak

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky today launched a new program offering farmers incentives for selling their property to beginning farmers, an effort to further sustain one of the state's most important industries.

Gov. Matt Bevin and partner organizations announced the Kentucky Selling Farmer Tax Credit (KSFTC) program, which will begin accepting applications Monday, Dec. 16.

"Farmers are a vital part of Kentucky's economy, and this new program will help ensure our state benefits from its bountiful supply of agricultural land to the fullest extent possible," Gov. Bevin said. "We are thankful for all who partnered in creating the KSFTC program, and we encourage selling farmers to take advantage of this exciting new opportunity."

Eligible selling farmers could receive tax credits up to 5% of the purchase price of qualifying assets, with a $25,000 cap per calendar year and a $100,000 lifetime cap.

KSP Upgrades 911 Emergency Dispatch System

New system will improve response time and officer safety.

By Kevin Woosley

Frankfort, KY - An upgrade to the Kentucky State Police 911 emergency dispatching system marks an important milestone for the agency.

The Kentucky State Police have been relying on their CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) program for over 15 years to supply the information needed by first responders when answering calls for service.

The CAD Next Gen upgrade with Caliber Public Safety will provide improvements such as automatic DMV and NCIC (National Crime Information Center database) checks to cut down on steps that previously required the dispatchers to access a second application, as well as providing access to possible computer system information exchange with neighboring agencies.

The upgrade to the system will be a phased approach, which began with Post 12 in Frankfort on November 18th. All KSP Posts upgraded by April, 2020.

Letter: we have Doers and Complainers

James Roberts writes:
In life you have Doers and Complainers. The Doers come up with an idea, borrows the money to build a business, pays the help, pays all the utilities, upkeep and insurance and maybe just maybe they can have a successful business. The Complainers are the ones that doesn’t want to take all these risks, but are the first to complain or first in the door when a new business opens. So if your going to complain, don’t do it with a mouth full of new food! -- Just me, James

Salvation Army Angel Tree Program is seeking donations

By Debbie Cowan

Dear Adair County Community: The Adair County Service Unit of The Salvation Army will once again be providing the Angel Tree Christmas assistance program for our community. This program provides Christmas gifts to qualifying Adair County children ages birth to sixteen and is made possible through donations and community support.

The program will be conducted in a different manner this year than in the past and we need help from the community. We are no longer requesting that individuals adopt a specific Angel and we will not provide paper angels containing information for one child. Instead we are planning an event where qualifying families will be able to visit the Angel Tree Shop and select gifts for their child(ren).

To make this project successful, we are requesting that your church/organization/group consider providing items for the Angel Tree Shop.

Commentary: Are we prepared for growth?

Comments re article 107486 Commentary Be grateful for local investment

By Lorne Holler

Well, first off thank you for going to bat for the highway lighting at the wal-mart interchange it was a driving hazard. No one knows what goes into getting something like that done.

It's not that people are being negative about the new business coming into Columbia. They are thinking just how many ways can a hamburger be made? how burger places do we really need? The Pinewood center is doing good and is good for the area.

In my opinion what people are wanting in this area is a variety of jobs so they don't have to drive so far. They want good jobs so they can pay their bills and expenses, then spend locally so they don't have to drive to another county. Not just fast food places or a lot of retail.

Neat family history road trip

By Dallas Neat

On Sunday morning, November 2, 2019, Don and Fran Neat and I started out on a trip to Rowan County, NC, in search of our ancestor, Hans Rudolph Neet, and his wife Barbara.

We arrived in Salisbury late Sunday afternoon and had enough daylight left to drive through the town and locate the library. We were there when it opened on Monday morning and were assisted by some very helpful ladies in the history room We spent the day there and located the land on a map that they settled on when they arrived there from Maryland. We didn't find Barbara's maiden name as we had hoped to.

The next morning we headed to Davies County and with the help of a kind man (Terry Burton) we were shown the land on which they had lived. We then spent some time in the library at Mocksville, the county seat Of Davies County which was taken from Rowan County. We were able to find Rudolph's signature on a document at the library in Mocksville.

We arrived back home late Tuesday night, worn out, but better informed about our ancestor. I want to thank Don and Fran for the trip and much help with the search.
