Estimates suggest General Fund surplus in FY 2020

By Rebecca Hanchett

Frankfort, KY - Preliminary estimates from a group of state economic forecasters predicts that Kentucky will end this fiscal year with a General Fund revenue surplus of $26.7 million.

The preliminary fiscal year 2020 forecast--based on projected revenue growth over the state's current official revenue estimate, issued in late 2017--adopted on Tuesday by the Consensus Forecasting Group (CFG) reflects 0.8 percent projected General Fund growth by the end of FY 2020. It also predicts 2.0 percent revenue growth in FY 2021 and 1.7 percent growth in FY 2022.

The CFG also adopted revenue estimates yesterday for the state Road Fund which funds state transportation projects. Preliminary estimates suggest FY 2020 Road Fund revenues will exceed the current official estimate by $52.7 million.

LWC Cycling finishes 8th at Collegiate Mtn Bike Nationals

By Christopher Coombs

Big Bear Lake, CA - The Lindsey Wilson cycling team posted an eight-place finish at the Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championship this past weekend as they competed against 20 other programs from across the country.

"I am extremely pleased with how we performed this weekend. We faced some challenges in the cross country and short track cross country races with mechanicals, and the course was extremely demanding but the team did their job and handled the adversity," Said head coach Josh Patton. "We have a lot of freshmen this year so seeing them perform on the national stage has allowed us to better prepare for next year."

Friday began with varsity cross country men's race as Phillip Christmas, Tyler Junkins, Amai Rawls, Grant Wilson, and Luis Rivera all competed in the event. The race consisted of three, eight-mile laps as they were tasked with climbing nearly 4,000 feet.

Rawls was the top LWC finisher in 37th place while Wilson secured 40th as both helped score points for team omnium. Christmas placed 44th, Junkins 54th, and Rivera pulled from the race.

Letter: Bascom Burbridge

Donna White writes:
According to my mom, Polly Banks, the man is Bascom Burbridge, but she is not sure of the woman's identity. She said it may be a sister, as Bascom was never married. Bascom (1872-1932) was a brother to Rollen's grandfather, Levi, who is my great grandfather. --Donna
