KSP: Injury Collision in Work Zone on KY90 in Cumberland Co.

By Sergeant Jason Morris

Burkesville, KY - Kentucky State Police investigated a multiple vehicle injury collision Friday in the city limits of Burkesville on KY90 at 9:54pmCT.

Preliminary investigation indicates 49 year-old Del Quinton Warner of Liberty was operating a 2016 Peterbilt truck and trailer traveling west on KY 90 when he entered a work zone where workers were present working on the bridge.

For an unknown reason, Warner struck the barrier wall causing his steering tire to blow out. Warner's vehicle continued down the barrier wall where he sideswiped a crane being operated by 28 year-old Zachary Waford of Shelbyville.

Warner's vehicle continued west on KY90 striking a Chevrolet pickup and guardrail before striking the front of a GMC Yukon causing a chain reaction striking a Ford F250 all of which were unoccupied. A construction worker, Kevin Zikes, of Fisherville, was injured when he attempted to avoid the collision by leaping over the guardrail.

Maury E Lewis writes:
How many days of fog have we already had in August? How many are counting? Inquiring minds want to know where this fog day came from? --Melewi

Maury, I hope someone has kept count and will send in the number - a mention was made this morning that the number of foggy days will be equal to the number of snow days - or something like that. Thanks for your good questions - LW

Adair to receive $42K in excess LGEAF revenue

By Nicole Burton

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced that more than $15 million in excess coal severance tax revenue will be allocated to 49 counties and 122 municipalities that qualify to receive funds from the Local Government Economic Assistance Fund (LGEAF) coal severance program.

As an Impact County, Adair will receive $42,264.44 from the program. The City of Columbia should receive $4,696.05.

The LGEAF is a program of revenue sharing for Kentucky counties and cities. The LGEAF returns a portion of state collected coal and non-coal mineral severance taxes to eligible local governments in accordance with KRS 42.450 - KRS 42.495. Eligibility in the LGEAF coal severance program occurs if a county is a coal "producer" or if there is significant transportation of coal through the county ("impact county"). The status of all counties is evaluated quarterly.

LGEA Funds can be used by local governments to address needs in the following priority categories: public safety, environmental protection, public transportation, health, recreation, libraries and educational facilities, social services, industrial and economic development, and workforce training.

Letter: Dogwood Dates

Jim writes:
This column must have appeared in November 1977. In Ed's November 8 "Around Adair" column (in the Adair County News), he mentioned that pledges had been made for 232 dogwoods.

The following week (November 15), the "It Happened Last Week in News" columnist reported the number pledged had nearly tripled and then stood at 646 trees.

For the record, Billy Beer was introduced in July 1977 and likely hit Lebanon and points south within a matter of days. (Inumberable jokes about the beverage soon made the scene, few of which were fitten for young eyes or ears.) --Jim
