Drugs and crime subjects of Coleman's CofC meeting speech

"...When you think Meth, think violence, because it keeps people up for days at a time, is used by the manic individual coming through the front door - it doesn't kill as quickly as the opioids we're fighting, it's a slow killer destroying the body over time, but it causes so much violence it is a real public safety risk to families and law-enforcement..." - USA Coleman

By Linda Waggener

United States Attorney Russell Coleman, the chief federal law enforcement officer in the 53-county Western District of Kentucky, raised his cell phone in the air and told the July Chamber of Commerce meeting audience, "If I were speaking to the campers on the other side of this center, I would pull out my cell phone and say this is one of the most dangerous items in your home."

Legislation would help farmers deal with vultures

By Sarah Ladd, Louisville Courier Journal

Farmers could soon enjoy more freedom when it comes to defending their livestock against vulture attacks, thanks to a new piece of legislation. Rep. Trey Hollingsworth (IN-09) introduced the Livestock Protection Act of 2019 to Congress on June 25.

It's in response to the recent spike in vulture attacks on livestock that farmers in Kentucky and Southern Indiana have faced and recommends making depredation permits more accessible to farmers.

More on the J.O. Russell Bungalow

By Jim

A brief article about J.O. & Kizzie Russell's new bungalow appeared in the November 8, 1911 News:
A Beautiful Home

Mr. J.O. Russell's bungalow was completed last week, and beyond question, it is a very attractive home. Mr. Russell spared neither means nor time in arranging the building to his liking. All the rooms are hardwood finish, requiring the skill of four finished workmen a month or six weeks to complete the work.

It is certainly a modern home with every convenience, and great addition to Jamestown Street, and if Mr. Russell and his good wife have not a domicile to suit them to perfection, 'tis not because every energy was not bought to bear to bring about that result.
(Curiously enough, a boilerplate article in the News a week later disdainfully dismissed the Russell's chosen style of housing. saying in part, "The so-called bungalow type of dwelling is little more than a revival, under another name, of the old, plainer, pestiferous story and a half dwelling.")
