Guilty plea entered by Greensburg Attorney Danny Butler

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - A Campbellsville, KY, man pleaded guilty before United States District Court Judge Greg N. Stivers today (Friday, Dec. 7, 2018) to five counts of wire fraud as part of a scheme to obtain money from clients of his legal practice, by means of misappropriating funds, in order to pay personal expenses including gambling losses, announced United States Attorney Russell M. Coleman.

The 35-degree cloudy afternoon didn't stop the Edmonton-Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade Saturday, December 8, 2018.

It lined up at the Blue Gym at Metcalfe County Elementary School and traveled to the Public Square in Edmonton and back to the delight of many on the streets and many more lined up in their warm vehicles. The parade theme was "A Bicentennial Christmas."

WKU faculty: Proposed termination letters a breach of trust

Western Kentucky University faculty members are accusing the administration of "egregious" actions that have eroded the trust of the faculty in an issue regarding the employment of all full-time, non-tenure eligible faculty next school year.

On Monday, Provost Terry Ballman announced that those faculty members should expect letters notifying them that they may ultimately not be rehired next school year - an announcement Ballman later walked back in a campuswide email Wednesday. "No letters of notification will be distributed at this time," Ballman wrote in the email.

More students use e-cigs, officials seek remedy

The national increase in teenagers smoking e-cigarettes is upending Kentucky high schools as well, with disciplinary incidents increasing and adults struggling to address the health concerns.

According to the FDA, the number of U.S. high school students who reported being current e-cigarette users increased 78 percent between 2017 and 2018 to 3.05 million.

Ceremony honors long-serving KY poll workers

Secretary Grimes calls for legislation to allow students to pre-register to vote & serve on Election Day

Frankfort, KY - In a ceremony the first of its kind, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes and bipartisan former Kentucky secretaries of state on Wednesday gathered to recognize hundreds of the Commonwealth's longest serving poll workers at the State Capitol.

"Our Commonwealth's elections would absolutely not be possible without the dedication of thousands of precinct election officers every Election Day," Grimes said. "Today, we recognize the very tangible service they provide to Kentucky, and I join my predecessors in saying, heartily, 'Thank you!'"

Dozens of Kentuckians were honored at the ceremony for having served more than 25 years as a poll worker, including Elizabeth Neal of Powell County. Neal has served on Election Day since the 1950s.

New Deer Hunting Regulations Proposed for 2019 Season

New public land deer hunting regulations highlighted the quarterly meeting of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission Friday, Dec. 7.

The commission recommends all hunting, fishing and boating regulations to the Kentucky General Assembly for approval. The Legislature must approve regulation recommendations before they become law.

The commission proposed changes for deer quota hunts on several wildlife management areas (WMAs) and state parks. These changes would become effective for the 2019-2020 deer seasons:

Winter weather advisory update

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the area of South Central Kentucky that includes Edmonton, Columbia, Jamestown, Burkesville, and Albany, from 7pmCT this evening to 11amCT on Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service is now predcting total snow and sleet accumulations of around 1 inch, localized amounts of 2 inches possible. Total ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch.

The best chance for accumulating snow and ice will be from Midnight to 10amCT on Sunday morning, with a transition back to rain or drizzle by late Sunday morning. Expect slick roads and limited visibilities at times overnight, and use caution while driving.

LWC Men's Basketball beats Carver 82-54

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Carver (GA) 82-54 on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Lindsey Wilson Classic at Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson will be back in action on Saturday, December 15, 2018, when they take on Indiana Southeast at 5:30pmCT at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

High 38F, Winter weather advisory from 7pmCT tonight

It should be cloudy today, with a high near 38F and northeast wind 8 to 10 mph. Starting this evening, wet snow is expected in the area, with brief transitions to sleet or freezing rain possible early Sunday morning. Total snow and sleet accumulations of around 1 inch are expected, with localized amounts of 2 inches possible.

The overnight low should be around 30F. The best chance for accumulating snow and sleet will be from Midnight to 8amCT on Sunday. After 9amCT on Sunday, a shift from snow to rain is likely before 11am. Expect a high near 40F. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

The National Weather Service says that there is the possibility that a strong storm system could impact the region by late next week, bringing widespread rain.

Greg Smith, 56, native of Adair County, KY (1962-2018)

While serving as a mortgage broker, he helped in opening many other mortgage and title companies in the surrounding area. He was involved in many different sporting activities, a drag racing enthusiast, an ultra-competitive card player and an avid golfer & University of Kentucky fan.

Greg Smith, 56, of Campbellsville, died Friday, December 7, 2018 at his home.

Funeral Service will be Monday, December 10, 2018 at 12noonCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Watson, Bro. Steve Wagers & Bro. Drew Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Russell County. Visitation is after 12noonCT Sunday. Casket Bearers will be Robbie Shaw, Chuck Bohannon, Matt Alvey, Trey Shirley, Jonathan Grider & Zack Charbonneau.

KY Youth Assembly awards given to several CHS students

Campbellsville High School students brought home several awards from the Kentucky Youth Assembly session recently. The school's Kentucky YMCA Youth Association chapter attended the annual conference on Nov. 18-20 at Crowne Plaza in Louisville and the state capitol in Frankfort.

The Kentucky Youth Assembly is a three-day program in which students serve as part of a model state government.

Bevin to hold forums in Barren, Hart on Monday

Gov. Matt Bevin will visit Glasgow and Munfordville on Monday for two separate community dialogues about economic development and other key issues and initiatives impacting the Commonwealth. These events are open to the public.

The Barren County community forum will be on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 11amCT, at the TJ Health Pavilion Community Ctr., 310 N L Rogers Wells Blvd., Glasgow, KY.

The Hart County community forum will be on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 1:30pmCT at the Hart County Public Library, 500 East Union St., Munfordville, KY.

Lindsey Wilson Classic continues today

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team welcomes Campbellsville University and Carver (GA) to Biggers Sports Center for two basketball games as they host the Lindsey Wilson College Classic this weekend.

The Lindsey Wilson College Classic is sponsored by Brown and Brown Insurance as well as Sleep Inn and Suites of Columbia.

Competition began at 8pmCT on Friday as Campbellsville faced Carver. The Blue Raiders take on Carver at 1pmCT on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY, to close out the weekend.

Bevin to Lead Economic Development Mission to India

Frankfort, KY - The U.S. Department of Commerce has selected Gov. Matt Bevin to lead an economic development delegation to India in mid-January to attend the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019, also providing an opportunity to discuss and promote Kentucky as a must-see location for corporate investment and job growth.

Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development leaders Terry Gill and Vivek Sarin will join Gov. Bevin, as will Erran Persley, the cabinet's executive director for international affairs and business development. During events and meetings throughout the trip, the delegation plans on building and strengthening relationships with Indian business and political connections to fuel future economic growth for the state.

Indian companies own - in whole or part - five facilities in Kentucky, which currently employ approximately 1,625 people. Those include Amneal Pharmaceuticals LLC in Glasgow; Cumi America Inc. Abrasives Division in Hebron; Flex Films USA Inc. in Elizabethtown; Logan Aluminum Inc. in Russellville; Novelis Corp. in Berea; and Piramal Pharma Solutions Inc. in Lexington.
