CU's Nick Ratliff wins! He's heading to 2019 Bassmaster Classic

CU senior Nick Ratliff, who is majoring in business administration with an emphasis in marketing, started off with his first strike immediately after the launch with back-to-back 2-plus-pound smallmouth bass. He appeared to have a nearly insurmountable advantage at the first break and reveal, which came an hour early as a passing storm with lightning forced the anglers back to a covered dock.

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. -- A storm rolled in and the lighting struck not twice but three times as two college anglers put on the kind of show in a bracket finale that would even make Mother Nature nervous.

Nick Ratliff, 21, of Elizabethtown, Ky., a senior at Campbellsville University, pulled lightning out of his pocket, twice, to punch his ticket to the 2019 Bassmaster Classic.

Election 6 Nov 2018 - Candidates now know positions on ballot

Candidates in local races now know their positions on the November Ballot, the result of a drawing of numbers in the office of Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer which started at 2pmCT, this Thursday afternoon, August 16, 2018.

The candidates in partisan elections' positions were determined by party affiliation as prescribed by Kentucky Revised Statutes, which state that the order is the same as the results in the last presidential race, in 2016. The Republican candidates will have position No. 1, Democrats No. 2, and Independents will be in position No. 3 - or No. 2 when no Democratic is running.

In the three way race for Mayor of Columbia, the draw result were in this order:

FRANKFORT, KY - (Thu 16 Aug 2018) - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced Global Win Wickliffe LLC, a Chinese-owned paper products manufacturer, will reopen the former Verso Corp. mill in west Kentucky's Ballard County with a $150 million investment expected to create 500 full-time jobs.

The six top vote getters will win seats on the Council.

Nine candidates, five incumbents (indicated by "I" below, and four non-incumbents, indicated by "N") are competing for the six open seats on the Columbia City Council. They are, in order of filing, as follows:

Election 6 Nov 2018 - SCD Board race decided, won't be on ballot

With Mike McMinoway withdrawal, there are only three candidates for three open seats. The last day for candidates to withdraw and not have their names appear on the ballot is Monday, August 27, 2018, according to Deputy Clerk Nadalie Inscho.

Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer, announced this morning that with the withdrawal of Mike McMinoway of Jack Smith Road, Columbia, KY, from the race for Adair County Soil Conservation District Board Member, the field is reduced to three candidates, and with only three remaining in the race and three open positions, the race will not appear on the ballot in November.

The three candidates remaining are:
  • Danny Wilkinson, Johnson Cemetery Road, Columbia, KY
  • Julie A. Day, Day Road, Columbia, KY
  • Wesley Taylor, Pelly Lane, Columbia, KY
Polls will be open for all the other General Election candidates 6am-6pmCT, Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Peggy R. Bryant, 70, Taylor County, KY (1948-2018)

June 08, 1948 - August 13, 2018 - Peggy enjoyed being involved in the Red Hat Society and when her health permitted, participating in the Old Time Rock and Rollers line dancing and clogging. She professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist Faith. Her husband, Noel Bryant, survives.

Beverly Elaine Gray Chesser, 46, Taylor County, KY (1972-2018)

January 03, 1972 ~ July 30, 2018 (Age 46)
She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Robinson Creek Baptist Church. She was a native of Marion County, KY, and a resident of Taylor County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Leon Gray and Mildred Odessa Bault Gray. Her husband, Darren Chesser, survives. She leaves one direct and two step- living descendants.

Beverly Elaine Gray Chesser of Campbellsville, KY died Monday, July 30, 2018 in Lebanon at age 46.

Memorial visitation will be held 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Robinson Creek Baptist Church in Campbellsville, KY.

Lindsey Wilson Volleyball ranked No. 1 in NAIA Preseason Top 25

2018 National Champions were unbeaten in last season.

COLUMBIA, KY – (14 Aug 2018) –The Lindsey Wilson volleyball program is the No. 1 ranked team in the nation according to the 2018 NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, officials announced on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders accrued 371 total voting points and 11 first-place votes to claim the top spot in the preseason. Lindsey Wilson is coming off the program’s first NAIA National Championship in 2017 after posting a perfect 35-0 record en route to the national title.
