Election 6 Nov 2018 - Candidates now know positions on ballot

Candidates in local races now know their positions on the November Ballot, the result of a drawing of numbers in the office of Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer which started at 2pmCT, this Thursday afternoon, August 16, 2018.

The candidates in partisan elections' positions were determined by party affiliation as prescribed by Kentucky Revised Statutes, which state that the order is the same as the results in the last presidential race, in 2016. The Republican candidates will have position No. 1, Democrats No. 2, and Independents will be in position No. 3 - or No. 2 when no Democratic is running.

In the three way race for Mayor of Columbia, the draw result were in this order:

In the nine way race for Columbia City Council, the draw result were in this order:
Columbia City Council

  2. Taft Neal. PHOTO
  3. Mark Harris. PHOTO
  4. June Parson. PHOTO
  5. Amy Pike. PHOTO
  6. Sharon Marie Payne. PHOTO
  7. Linda Waggener. PHOTO
  8. Ronald "Butch" Rogers. PHOTO
  9. Craig Lasley. PHOTO

In the two way race for School Board 5th district, the draw result were in this order:
School Board, 5th District - East Columbia, Ozark, and White Oak Precinct
  1. Troy Grider - PHOTO
  2. Michael George Payne (PHOTO
These were the only ballot positions decided by the drawing on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

After a brief "Here's What We'll be Doing & Why" welcome, by County Clerk Lisa Greer at left, drawing for ballot positions took place for Non-Partisan races. Above, drawing for Division 5 School Board race, Vicky Pike (D member of the Board of Elections), reads the number drawn from cup marked "School Board." The top spot in that race goes to Troy Grider. The other candidate, who now holds the seat by virtue of appointment, Michael George Payne, will be in ballot position #2. Looking on are mayoral candidate representative Margaret Arnold, mayoral candidate Pamela Hoots, (Mayor Curtis Hardwick was out-of-town on city business), and soon to draw the number one council ballot position Craig Dean; PVA candidate Scotty Neat who received the top position by virtue of party affiliation; council candidate Amy Pike, who drew position position #4; and Anna Burton. Dr. Ben Arnold, who ran as a write-in 2016, filed Tuesday, August 15, 2018, qualifying for a position on the ballot this year. Rogers, incumbent City Council member, was the first to file for City Council and consequently, the first to pick a ticket from the cup for a ballot position in the drawing in the county clerk's office, Thursday, August 16, 2018. Significantly, Dr. Rogers drew #8, symbolic of renewal and rejuvenation and will be #8 on the list of nine candidates, the top six vote getters of which will have seats on the council. - EW.
