'To the Nines' effort & how small businesses across America are saving small towns
Three opportunities in the coming ten days show that Columbia is all-business in the month of August. Summer 2018 has to have been, so far, one of the most beautiful on record in south central Kentucky. Gazing over these rolling, deep green fields on the Acree Road side of Adair County makes me wonder if anyone could say where it is if there's a place more perfect? - LW

Kay Frances Crawley, 80, Taylor County, KY (1937-2018)

She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom after more than thirty years. She loved to travel with her family and enjoyed taking pictures of old churches and cemeteries. Kay was known for her lovely decorating and found peace being outdoors and reading books in her rocking chair. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She married J. D. Underwood September 4, 1954 and he preceded her in death May 30, 1984. Kay later married Sam Crawley May 23, 1985 who survives.

Funeral services will be held at 10amCT/11amET Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home by Dr. James E. Jones. Burial will follow in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-7pmCT/5-8pmET Monday, August 6, 2018 at the funeral home.

Leonard Arthur Krug, 86, Adair County, KY (1932-2018)

January 17, 1932 ~ August 2, 2018 (Age 86)
He attended Rockhurst High School and the University of Missouri and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. He was active in community theater and became a member of Actors' Equity in Chicago. After retiring to KY, he appeared frequently at Barnlot Theater in Edmonton, KY, where, under the stage name Lee Barko, he played such roles as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Mr. Potter in It's a Wonderful Life, Uncle Harvey in June Groom, Harry Roat in Wait until Dark, Dr. Einstein in Arsenic and Old Lace, Valencio in The Bold, the Young and the Murdered, Willie Clark in The Sunshine Boys, and Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird. His wife, Kathryn Mary Dunn Krug, survives.

Billy Wayne Skaggs, 80, Green County, KY (1938-2018)

June 19, 1938 ~ August 3, 2018 (Age 80)
He was a native of Green County, KY and a resident of Jefferson County, KY, at the time of his death there. He leaves 13 direct living descendants. His final resting place will be in the county of his birth, in Summersville, KY. He was the patriarch of a large, close knit and loving family. He loved his family, enjoyed traveling, watching his favorite minister (Jesse Duplantis), old westerns and classic TV, working crossword puzzles, reading and watching "Jeopardy" (everyone knew not to call him). He was affectionately referred to as "Pop". He was a beloved Dad, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, friend and so much more. He will truly be missed.

Interment will be in Wilson Cemetery, Summersville Community of Green County, KY. Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT, Monday, August 6, 2018, at the funeral home. The minister will be Dan Perkins.

Mr. Rodney Earl Scott, 46, Marrowbone, Cumberland Co., KY (1972-2018)

March 21, 1972 ~ August 3, 2018 (Age 46)
Rodney loved mechanic work and motorcycles. He was a member of a respected South Central Kentucky family. He was the son of Elizabeth Scott, who survives, and the late Ervin Scott. His wife, Lisa Muse Scott, survives. He leaves three direct living descendants including one expected granddaughter.

South Central Kentucky Outdoor Expo is TODAY Sat 04 Oct 2018 9am-4pm.CT

Today, the spotlight on Outdoor Sports is on Columbia, KY, USA. The EXPO is one of the major events in the Outdoor Sports World in the Nation. Gary Miller will be the keynote speaker this year. Several state championships will be decided today. This year, the number of exhibitors is UP from last year, from 70 to 80.
