COLUMBIA, KY - (Wed 28 Mar 2018) - U.S. Congressman James Comer was invited to Lindsey Wilson College for a luncheon with students and a tour of campus on Wednesday.

The congressman's visit to LWC was part of his scheduled morning stop in Columbia which included a town hall meeting at the Adair County Judicial Center.

McEva Mayse, Glensfork, Adair County, KY (1926-2018)

She was a devout Christian and a member of Columbia Baptist Church. She was a respected community, business, and civic leader, and was the matriarch of prominent Adair County family. She was retired from IMO Delaval pump division in Columbia, KY, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer, and was former President of Pinewood Country Club. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison Bradshaw, Sr., & Mallie Blakey Bradshaw, and the widow of Arnold Mayse. She leaves eight direct living descendants spanning four generations.

Columbia Police Department releases name of shooting victim

Columbia Police Department is currently investigating an incident that resulted in one man being shot.

The incident occurred at 200 Church Street when 28-year-old Donte Sangster went to the home of 46-year-old Micheal Ed Dial.

(Wed 28 Mar 2018 at 2:56pmCT) - The Big Dawg has learned that a man, possibly from Lebanon, KY, was flown to UL Medical Center, Louisville, KY, after being shot through the neck today, Wednesday, March 27, 2018, in an incident on Church Street, Columbia, KY.

The name of the victim has not be released.

However, according to the information received, the victim was shot after he allegedly threatened Michael "Big Ed" Dial, Columbia, KY at Dial's home.

No charges had been filed.

More will be broadcast and posted on ColumbiaMagazine.com received by officials.

He was a truck driver. He was a native of Williamsburg, KY, and a resident of Russell County, KY, at the time of his death. Hew was he son of the late Emrie & Dora Belle Bryant Hamblin. His wife, Phyllis Ann Holt Hamblen survives. He was the patriarch of a respected Russell County, KY family. He leaves 13 direct and three step- living descendants. His final resting place will be in his adopted Russell County, KY.

R FRANKFORT, KY (Wed 29 Mar 2018) - A 29-year-old coal miner was killed early Wednesday in a conveyer belt accident at a Harlan County mine. Hubert Grubbs, of Harlan, KY, a pre-shifter/belt examiner with 10 years of experience, suffered fatal injuries at the Revelation Energy, LLC, D11 Panther Mine in Cumberland, KY.

Bobby Gilpin, 85, Campbellsville, KY (1932-2018)

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and custodian for several years. He was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville and also a farmer. He loved his farm and was an avid gardener. He was the patriarch of a highly regarded Taylor County, KY family, the son of the late Harry Gilpin and Gladys Sullivan Gilpin. His wife, Peggy Wilcoxson Gilpin, survives. He leaves nine direct living descendants.

ACHS Academic Team brings home State Championship

Continuing Tradition of Excellence, ACHS Future Problem Solvers win State Championship. Adair swept 1st place scores among all evaluators in the final round, a rare accomplishment at such a high level. Team members of the State Championship squad were Benjamin Hancock, Lejano Zavalija, Arabella Caldwell, and Chris Stuchell. in and attending State Finals this weekend included were Benjamin Hancock, Lejano Zavalija, CJ Bonifer, Trevor Smith, Arabella Caldwell, Samuel Willis, Chris Stuchell, Maddie Harmon, Ty Cheatham, Keaton Coomer, Alex Godsey, and Elizabeth Rexroat.

From A-Team Staff at Adair County High School

As "March Madness" is buzzing about the sports world, the culmination of Kentucky academic competition reached its peak this past weekend in the annual "Academic Team Big Dance" at the Galt House in Louisville. The location served as host to state's elite who gathered for the Governor's Cup State Championships after qualifying through the District and Region stages in January and February. The Adair County High School Academic Team returned to top form by bringing home the Future Problem Solving State Championship. Among others, the team climbed past the defending 2nd and 3rd Place finisher at last year's World Championships to take home the title. The competition goes through three rounds of evaluations with cuts to the Top 10 that get whittled down to 5 and then re-scored completely among the top 5 competing teams in the final round of evaluation. Adair swept 1st place scores among all evaluators in the final round, a rare accomplishment at such a high level.

CHS students to raise money for local animal shelters

Campbellsville High School students are raising money to help animals housed at local animal shelters.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America students are hosting a bake sale with a variety of homemade items on Thursday, March 29, 2018, in FCCLA sponsor Deanna Campbell's classroom and in the upstairs hallway, in Campbellsville High School, 230 W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. All items can be purchased for 50 cents or $1. Students can purchase items between sixth and seventh period classes, and after school. All proceeds will be given to local animal shelters. Southern Monroe County hillside patch of Virginia Bluebells is at least 70 years old

Wayne Baxter re-visited a favorite spot in Monroe County, KY, and submitted pictures of what looks like the Mother Lode of Virginia Bluebells, along with a Mystery, four petal yellow flower he's hoping a reader will identify. He writes:
"I visited a large patch of wild flowers in southern Monroe County on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

"I was sure I was going to have the first Virginia Bluebells picture of the season, but I see Mitzi Bault beat me to It. I know the patch has been there 70 years. Perhaps someone else can ID the little yellow flower, photographed in one of the accompanying photo(s)."
