Hunter Durham: Drove team and wagon to Coomer's

Hunter Durham writes:
When I was about 10 or 11, one of the many times i spent down at Lawrence & Ella Gilpins, We got the mules (Red and Frances) and hitched to a wagon with a brake by timber, and I drove the team with the help of Uncle Lawrence. We rode the wagon down to the store at Coomers, got some BB's, a six pack of pop and some nails. What a great adventure. I tried to plow some with these mules and instead of being in a straight line, I ended up way to right and about 10 yards away from the line. Boy did Uncle Lawrence get a laugh out of that. - Hunter Durham

Larry Clark recalls Mr. Coomer's Indian motorcycle... and price!

Larry Clark writes:
I remember when father took my brother and me to this store to get a chain saw to be repaired. If my memory serves me correctly it was a Remington brand. I must have been six or seven years old, I am now sixty-one. I believe Pinky Cofer worked there. While we were waiting ,we looked at stuff in Mr.Coomer's store. He had a fully dressed early model Indian chief. It was beautiful .fringe hanging from the handle bars and seat. I remember Dale asking what he would take for it, when he said seven hundred and fifty dollars, well our bubbles burst he may as well ask ten thousand.. .so much for that. --Larry Clark
