State Police tell drivers to prepare before winter driving Kentucky State Police offer helpful advice like planning ahead, reducing speed in wintery conditions, leaving early to allow more travel time, and increasing the distance between vehicles among other tips for staying safe in winter driving conditions. "Winter driving can present formidable challenges including sleet, snow, slick roads, freezing temperatures and reduced visibility," says KSP spokesman Sergeant Josh Lawson. "It can be a deadly combination if you're not prepared." The KSP reported that slippery roads were the contributing factor in 12,412 crashes and 51 highway deaths in 2016. Mayme Parrigin, Adair Co., KY/Metcalfe native (1927-2017) Mrs. Parrigin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. She is warmly remembered for her poise, grace, and helpfulness during her business career as a sales clerk in various businesses in Columbia. She was the daughter of the late Allen & Ellen Compton Rhinehart, and the widow of William E. Parrigin. She leaves seven direct living descendants. James (Sonny) Baker, 88, Green County, KY (1929-2017) He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Milltown United Methodist Church. Mr. Baker was a self-employed carpenter.His wife, Paula Baker, Greensburg, KY, survives. He was a member of a prominent family, a native of Adair County and a resident of Green County at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Dewey Baker & Iva Keltner Baker. He leaves seven direct living descendants and many close relatives in Green, Adair, Fayette Counties of Kentucky, and elsewhere. His final resting place will be at Tarter's Chapel Cemetery, 4360 Milltown Road, located in the Portland community of Adair County, KY.
